Flying Dutchmen Repeat as MIAA Champions; Aaron VandenBerg is League Medalist

The Flying Dutchmen have repeated as MIAA champions in men's golf.

Coach Bob Ebels' Dutchmen won five of seven league tournaments this fall to end with a 60 stroke advantage over runnerup Calvin.

It is Hope's eighth alltime conference championship and the sixth since 1986.

Hope senior Aaron VandenBerg of Holland, Mich. (Holland HS). He edged teammate Eric Wohlfield of Brighton, Mich. (Brighton HS) for the seasonal medalist honors by two strokes. Wohlfield, a junior, was the two-time defending MIAA medalist. VandenBerg ended with a 76.1 strokes per tournament average while Wohlfield ended at 76.4 2000 MIAA League Leaders

Sophomore Everett Leonard of Kalamazoo, Mich. (Hackett HS) joined VandenBerg and Wohlfield on the All-MIAA first team by finishing sixth in the seasonal standings at 79.6 strokes per round.

Freshman Jeff Melville of Grandville, Mich. (Jenison HS) gained All-MIAA second team honors by finishing 10th in the final standings at 80.9 strokes per round.
