The Hope College Great Performance Series will feature the James Sewell Ballet on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 18-19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre.
The company of dancers is acclaimed internationally for its innovation, musicality, technical expertise, and engaging presentation. It has developed an exciting dance profile combining the classical virtues of ballet with the freedom of modern dance and the spirit of vaudeville.
"Different and unpredictable, this is the company to see," "The New York Times" has said. The newspaper has also said that James Sewell is "one of American ballet's most innovative choreographers."
"Dance Magazine" has said that the company "Soars with kinetic energy and inventive choreography."
The James Sewell Ballet distinguishes itself by being a ballet company operating in what has traditionally been a modern dance company structure: small, mobile, flexible, affordable, and performing original dances by a living choreographer.
Since 1993, the company has worked with many orchestras and other companies, including the Minnesota Orchestra, the North Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, the Minnesota
Opera, the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and the Minnesota Dance Theatre.
Tickets for the performance are $15 for regular adult admission, $12 for senior citizens, and $5 for children 18 and under. Tickets are available now and may be purchased by calling (616) 395-7890 or visiting the theatre lobby ticket office in the DeWitt Center weekdays 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The DeWitt Center is located on Columbia Avenue at 12th Street. The Knickerbocker Theatre is located in downtown Holland at 86 E. 8th St.
