Computer Science Department Celebrating 35 Years

The department of computer science at Hope College will celebrate its 35-year anniversary with a reception on Saturday, April 18, at 2 p.m. in the atrium of the A. Paul Schaap Science Center.

The public is invited.  Admission is free.

The reception will open with informal remarks by members of the computer science faculty and a chance to learn about current student research and class projects, followed by an opportunity for fellowship and browsing of memorabilia from the past 35 years.  Refreshments will be served.

The college first offered computer science coursework in the latter 1960s as an offering in the department of mathematics:  Math 27, beginning FORTRAN.  The department itself began in 1974.  Today the department has four full-time faculty, and degree options include a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in computer science as well as (through the department of engineering) a Bachelor of Science in engineering with a computer engineering emphasis.

The A. Paul Schaap Science Center is located at 35 E. 12th St., at 12th Street and College Avenue.
