2010 Spring Golf Pre-Season Outlooks

MEN'S GOLF

The Flying Dutchmen will use their spring schedule of five tournaments
as a tuneup for the NCAA Division III championships. By winning the
Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship last
fall, coach Bob Ebels' Dutchmen will be headed to the NCAA tournament
for the 10th time in school history. Nationals will be held May 11-14
in Hershey, Pa.

Last fall the Flying Dutchmen laid claim to the MIAA championship for
the ninth time in 11 years. Senior Steven Strock (Grandville, Mich.)
captured league medalist honors for the second straight year and was
joined on the All-MIAA first team by teammates Charlie Olson, a
freshman from Suttons Bay, Mich., and Nick Campbell, a sophomore from
Saline, Mich. For the season, Strock averaged 73.7 strokes per 18-hole
round while Olson ended at 74.1 and Nick Campbell 74.25. Other Hope
golfers who qualified for the final MIAA seasonal standings were
junior Chris Ansel of Zeeland, Mich. (Zeeland East HS), 77.4 average,
and sophomore Andy Thomson of Beaver Dam, Wisc. (Central Wisconsin
Christian HS), 80.1 average.

WOMEN'S GOLF

The Flying Dutch will be seeking to gain a berth in the NCAA Division
III championships this spring.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) receives an
automatic berth in the national tournament which will be held May
11-14 at Howet-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The MIAA qualifier to nationals will be determined from the results of
three tournaments to be held this spring. The first 18-hole round will
be Wednesday, April 18, at The Medalist in Marshall, Mich. The second
and third 18-hole rounds will be hosted by regular season champion
Saint Mary's, first on Friday, April 23 at the Blackthorn golf club in
South Bend, Ind. and the second on Saturday, April 24 at the Warren
golf course on the campus of Notre Dame University.

The Flying Dutch were ranked 16th nationally among NCAA Division III
women's golf teams after the fall season. It is the best national
ranking for a Flying Dutch golf team in school history. Last fall
under first-year coach Greg Stafford,  the Flying Dutch ended third in
the MIAA standings for the second straight year. Three Hope golfers
received All-MIAA second team recognition -- Charlotte Park, a
freshman from Grosse Pointe, Mich.; Megan Scholten, a sophomore from
Grand Rapids, Mich. and Cassie Sneller, a senior from Holland, Mich.
