Retired Art Professor Del Michel to Have Exhibition at Butch’s Gallery

Del Michel, professor emeritus of art, will be in Holland for an exhibition on Thursday, Oct. 20, at Armstrong De Graaf's DRYDOCK Gallery at 44 E. 8th St. (at Butch's Restaurant).  The art opening is from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. showing 30 pieces of hand-selected artwork on the first and lower level.

Del and his wife Sally will both be at the opening.  The art show spans several years' work and offers glimpses into his past as well as current work.  The works will be available for purchase.

Del Michel spent 39 years as a professor of art at Hope College in Holland.  In 2003, he moved to Northern Michigan and opened a working studio/gallery in downtown Traverse City.  In "The Northern Express," he is quoted as saying he came into the art profession in college and gravitated to abstract art.  "I tried realism and found I was more interested in the abstractness of those works.  So, I got out of realism quickly.  There has always been a lot of built-in prejudice against abstract art work, but it has been my life, an expression of my thoughts and experiences plus being very rewarding."
