The gallery of the De Pree Art Center at Hope College will host “Solid State” by Calla Thompson, from Monday, Jan. 16, until Friday, Feb. 10.
On Friday, Feb. 3, Thompson will give a talk at 4:30 p.m. A reception will follow from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The public is invited to the exhibition, talk and reception. Admission is free.
Thompson’s works are comprised primarily of appropriated images, altered in-computer, using both photographic and drawing techniques. Situated in a parallel realm, the characters in the works waver between virtuous and corrupt.
Thompson is associate professor of photography at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. In addition to her artist’s talk, she will spend her time at Hope meeting individually with senior studio majors, offering them critique and professional advice.
The De Pree Art Center is located at 160 E. 12th St., on Columbia Avenue at 12th Street. The regular gallery hours are Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.; and Sundays from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Gallery hours may be reduced during breaks and holidays. The gallery is handicapped accessible.
