Mascot Dutch Spotlighted In National Library Initative

Mascot poses next to his "Geek The Library" billboard in Holland.

Hope College has celebrated many scholar-athletes and teams over the years, but never a scholar-mascot. Well, this might be stretching it a bit, but still we are proud that Dutch is being recognized in a national initiative.

Holland's Herrick District Library invited Dutch to be part of a national initiative by including him on a billboard promoting the Geek the Library program.

You could imagine his surprise!

Geek the Library is a community based public awareness campaign designed to highlight the vital role of public libraries and raise awareness about the critical funding issues they face.

The campaign introduces the word ‘geek’ as a verb and draws attention to the fact every individual is passionate about something and anyone can learn more about what they geek—what they are passionate about — at the public library.

The campaign is sponsored by OCLC, a nonprofit library cooperative, and supported by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
