Research Interests

My research is focused on the molecular biology of lipids, using yeast as a model organism. My lab is particularly interested in what makes some fatty acids toxic to cells. We have isolated mutants that are particularly sensitive to a toxic fatty acid. We are in the process of cloning the defective genes in order to determine what is wrong with those cells. We hope this will give us insight into the transport and use of fatty acids in cells.

Personal Interests

I am married to Joseph Stukey. We have two children, Geordan and Thomas. Our hobbies now are trying to get some sleep and watching our sons grow! Occasionally, I get to read a mystery novel. I do enjoy cooking also. I am interested in science in society issues and science education.
