Hope College Music Department Facilities

The Department of Music is housed in the Nykerk/Wichers complex. Its facilities are impressive, and include:

  • 20 teaching studios
  • 19 practice rooms
  • a 16-unit electronic keyboard lab
  • an on-site organ studio
  • a music library
  • a recital auditorium
  • an instrumental rehearsal room
  • a hi-tech recording studio

The department also uses the 1,300-seat Dimnent Memorial Chapel for teaching and performances. This Chapel houses the four-manual Ernest M. Skinner organ, and the two-manual Pels and Van Leeuwen organ.

The department's assets include:

  • over twenty grand pianos
  • six pipe organs
  • a large number of band and orchestra instruments for student use
  • an extensive collection of books, scores, records, and CD's

Music Library

The Music Library is located in Nykerk Hall, and operates during the fall and spring semesters according to the following schedule.

Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Sunday 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

During May term and the summer months, the scheduled hours are 2:00-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. During other break periods and holidays, hours are as posted.

Circulation policy states that students may borrow a total of 25 items at any one time. Books, scores and curriculum may be borrowed for three weeks. Audio and video recordings may be borrowed for three days.

Reference materials and periodicals do not circulate except under special circumstances. Interloan privileges are available to students and are limited to five items requested per day.
