Department of Political Science

Welcome to the
Political Science Department, one of the most exciting, engaging, and
popular areas of study at Hope College.
Consider:
- Our
talented faculty's passion
for teaching plays out in a diverse range of perspectives, styles,
and approaches to the
classroom. Our professors
are also active scholars who regularly publish and present their work
on
topics such as the U.S. Supreme Court, the role of faith in politics,
global poverty, and the status of women in developing countries.
- Collaborative
research with students is an important part of this process
and is
indicative
of
the department's
strong focus on establishing one-on-one relationships
with our
majors.
- Our already broad offering of courses has
been substantially expanded with new courses such as: Introduction
to Global Studies, Religion & Politics, Law & Society, Global
Political Economy, International Law & Organizations, and Contemporary
Topics in Political Theory.
- Students have unparalleled
opportunities for applying their interests in political science
outside the classroom. In addition to the the highly-regarded Washington
Honors Semester, the department offers individualized internship
programs in Africa and South America, the student-led Model
United Nations program, local campaign management internships,
and a Wilderness Politics summer term in Colorado.
