Course Tutoring
The ASC provides individual or small group tutoring in most basic subjects, on either a long-term or short-term basis. A student interested in being tutored completes an application form at the ASC. After a tutor is assigned, the students meet on a regular basis to:
    Examine Student Learning Strategies
    Review Information from Class
    Discuss Content of Reading Assignments
Work Through Examples of Homework Problems

Peer tutors are generally upper-class students with outstanding academic records and faculty recommendations. They are trained in tutoring techniques and work with continuous supervision by the professional staff. Assignment of a tutor takes at least two working days. Once the match-up is made the peer tutor and student arrange the time of tutoring for the weekly or biweekly sessions.

Writing Tutoring
All students, whether accomplished or struggling writers, can benefit from one-on-one help on their writing. Upper-class students from various disciplines, trained as peer tutors, are available by appointment and drop-in to assist with the following:

    Understanding Writing Assignments
    Choosing Topics
    Getting Started
    Developing Ideas
    Organizing
    Crafting Sentences and Paragraphs
    Revising Rough Drafts
    Learning Grammar, Punctuation, and Proofreading
    Understanding Professors' Comments on Papers

Writing tutoring occurs in two locations: 1.) at the ASC, VanZoeren 261, during office hours, for which it is best to set up appointments in advance by stopping in or calling 395-7830, though walk-ins can receive help if a tutor is available; 2.) or in the Library Rm 113 on a first-come, first-served, drop-in basis, Sunday through Thursday evenings, from 8 to 10 pm. Students may schedule or drop in for as many sessions as they wish for any writing they're doing. Hope faculty may also arrange workshops or presentations for specific classes.
