Loan Entrance Counseling

First time federal loan borrowers are required to complete Entrance Counseling so that you understand your rights and responsibilities as a borrower.

Direct Loan Electronic Entrance Counseling takes about 20-30 minutes and is required before your Direct Loan funds can be paid to your student bill. You must take the quiz at the end of the session and submit it electronically. This is separate from the master promissory note completion. If you have questions after you complete the entrance counseling, contact the Office of Financial Aid for assistance.

You must maintain at least half-time enrollment during the fall and spring semesters to receive a loan and to not go into repayment. At Hope, half-time enrollment is 6 or more credit hours during any term. Should you reduce your enrollment or completely withdraw from a semester, contact the Office of Financial Aid first to determine the effect on your loan status. Official withdrawals are processed through the Registrar's Office.

Your loan information and enrollment status is reported to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). You can access your records on NSDLS using your Social Security Number and Federal PIN.

The average direct loan debt for Hope students graduating during the 2012-13 year was $23,193.

Perkins Loan entrance counseling is done at the same time you sign your master promissory note.
