Endowed Scholarships at Hope College

Over the years a number of endowed scholarship funds, which bear the name of the donor or persons designated by the donor, have been established. Endowed scholarships are awarded to students on the basis of demonstrated financial need and scholarship.

If you are interested in establishing a scholarship at Hope College, please contact Scott Wolterink (wolterink@hope.edu) at 616-395-7777.

Students are not able to directly apply for these Endowed Scholarships. When students complete financial aid paperwork, they will be considered for these scholarships.

ERIK J. AASEN '90 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
—A fund for deserving junior or senior students who have demonstrated financial need and a declared major in mathematics or the natural sciences. Preference will be given to students involved in campus leadership and service to others. Preference will also be given to students intending careers in physical therapy or teaching. Established in memory of Erik by his family and friends.

CHARLES E. AND MINERVA T. ADAMS SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established through the estate of Minerva T. Adams, to provide assistance to deserving students, with preference given to those from the Mississippi Gulf Coast area.

GERTRUDE DYKHUIS ADAMS SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by James Dykhuis Adams '40 in honor of his mother to provide scholarship assistance for deserving students demonstrating financial need.

FRED P. ADOLPH AND NELLIE VENEKLASEN ADOLPH SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund for deserving students, established through the estate of Fred P. and Nellie Veneklasen Adolph.

E. SAMUEL '11 AND GRACE ENGLE '11 AEILTS SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide aid to worthy science students. Established in memory of E. Samuel Aeilts and Grace Engle Aeilts.

MR. AND MRS. JOHN AGGEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide financial assistance for deserving students, with preference to those pursuing careers in music or the ministry. Established through the estates of Mr. and Mrs. John Aggen, Reformed Church members supporting the work of the college.

GEORGE I. ALDEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND ENDOWMENT—A fund established by the George I. Alden Trust of Worcester, Massachusetts, and by gifts from alumni and friends of the college in New England. This fund will provide assistance to needy and deserving students from the New England region.

HENRIETTA ALTHUIS '23 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established through the generosity of Henrietta Althuis, a career educator in Holland, Michigan. The fund provides assistance to deserving students studying art.

GEORGE R. AND EDITH WEAVER '26 ANDERSON FUND—Established in memory of Edith Weaver Anderson and George Weaver. This fund provides financial assistance to worthy students.

HENRY AND SIGNE ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established by their daughter, Carolyn Anderson ’65 Lin, in memory of her parents, to provide financial assistance for deserving women students with financial need.

BARBARA DYKSTRA ANKER SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This scholarship was funded through a charitable remainder trust established by Charles C. and Barbara Dykstra Anker in memory of Barbara's parents, Iekje and Bonne Dykstra, and Charles and Barbara's son, Christian. Upon Barbara's death, funds from the trust were converted into this endowed scholarship for the purpose of providing financial aid to deserving students majoring in pre-medicine or nursing.

APIANUS SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide a scholarship to a deserving senior student who has achieved academic excellence. The scholarship is named after a great 15th century German scientist. Given by Dr. and Mrs. Martin Sommer.

ARP FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A scholarship fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students from the Reformed Church of America. This scholarship was provided through the estate of Marjorie Arp.

KEN AND JEAN ASSINK SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Ken and Jean Assink, founders of JR Automation Technologies, to provide scholarship assistance to students with financial need pursuing careers in engineering.

PHYLLIS JEAN ATHEY '78 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Bryan and Ruth Athey in memory of their daughter, Phyllis Jean Athey, to provide assistance to students with financial need, with preference given to those majoring in theatre or religion.

HILDA K. (SALLY) BADEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by the children and grandchildren of Sally Baden to honor her commitment to education. This scholarship will be awarded to one or more deserving students who plan to pursue a career in elementary education.

PAUL AND MARGARET BAKER SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Paul and Margaret Baker to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need.

GENEVA KLEINHEKSEL '17 BALDWIN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—The Geneva Kleinheksel '17 Baldwin Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 by Marcia Baldwin '60 De Jong to honor the memory of her mother. The scholarship will be awarded to students with high integrity and good scholastic standing with a preference for a female student who has a strong commitment to the Christian faith.

JAMES BALK FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established by the James and Shirley Balk Foundation of Rockford, Michigan, to provide scholarships to first-year students, renewable for three additional years of study at Hope College. Preference is given to students residing in Kent County, Michigan, and majoring in business administration and/or economics.

WALTER F. BANK SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide scholarship aid for deserving students.

ROBERT E. AND WILDA G. BARBER SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Mrs. Wilda G. Barber in memory of Robert E. Barber, a distinguished businessman in the Holland community. Preference is given to a junior or senior majoring in business.

BERTELLE ARKELL BARBOUR SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Aid to worthy students provided by the Arkell Hall Foundation, Canajoharie, New York.

MARTHA BARKEMA VOICE SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund for deserving students, with preference given to those students studying voice.

BARNABAS SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established to provide scholarship aid for students who demonstrate financial need. This fund is named after Barnabas, the New Testament friend of Paul who sold all he had, gave it away and went out and preached the gospel.

PAUL GERDING BAST '65 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide assistance to students whose talent and character mark them for leadership in their chosen fields, as well as in the development of the highest human and Christian values in our society. Preference is given to students majoring in English or music. Established by family and friends of Paul Gerding Bast.

WILMA STEKETEE-BEAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Wilma Steketee-Bean to provide scholarships for deserving students, with preference given to students who are descendants of the Cornelius and Bena DeGraaf Steketee family.

CHRIS BECKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—An award to a graduating senior from Zeeland High School who demonstrates financial need.

CLARENCE '31 AND ELIZABETH '31 BECKER SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. Preference is given to those interested in elementary education and/or business. Established by Clarence and Betty Becker.

MARTI BECKERING MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by the parents, family and friends of Marti Beckering, an outstanding student and athlete at Hope who lost her life in an accident at the beginning of her sophomore year. Income from this fund provides financial assistance to an academically gifted woman student with financial need.

LARRY BECKMANN, JR. SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established by Maxine Beckmann Herpolsheimer, and Marilyn and Terry Henderson in memory of their son and brother, Larry Beckmann, Jr. The scholarship provides assistance to deserving students, with preference given to those pursuing careers in ministry or Christian Service.

WILLIAM AND MARION BEEBE SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Mr. and Mrs. William F. Beebe to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students with financial need.

RAYMOND VAN RENSSELAER BEGG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. Established by Mrs. Genevra Begg in memory of her husband, Mr. Raymond Van Rensselaer Begg.

MARY BLAIR '44 BENNETT SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A scholarship established by Rev. William C. Bennett and his son, Timothy B. Bennett, in memory of their wife and mother, Mary Blair Bennett. It provides assistance to deserving upperclassman who demonstrate academic competence and leadership abilities.

HAROLD E. BERGHORST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide scholarship aid for worthy students with preference given to student(s) majoring in natural sciences (biology, chemistry or physics).

WILLARD J. BERGHORST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A scholarship established in honor of Willard J. Berghorst, by his three children, all Hope graduates. It provides assistance to deserving students, with preference given to those pursuing a career in fine arts or education.

PAUL L. '41 AND LENORE V. '40 BETHKA SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide financial assistance to worthy students, with preference given to those from the New York State area encompassing Schenectady, Saratoga and Albany counties.

CAPTAIN HENRY J. BEUKEMA ’38 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Henry J. Beukema, Hope Class of 1938, a Naval chaplain and missionary, to provide financial assistance to students preparing for the Christian ministry, with preference given to students from the churches in the Chicago Classis.

ERNESTINE KLEREKOPER '30 BEUKEMA SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established by Henry J. Beukema '50 to honor Ernestine Klerekoper '30 Beukema. A gifted High School teacher of History and Social Sciences. She created a classroom setting that caused students to think, and she had a vital interest in the church and its related activities. The fund is for financial aid to students preparing for the Christian ministry, preference given to students from the Chicago Classis.

JEANETTE AGGEN BEUKEMA SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established by Henry J. Beukema '50 as a memorial to his late wife Jeanette Aggen Beukema whose engaging personality, deep commitment to her Lord, and outstanding organizational ability was a great asset in his Navy Chaplaincy. The fund is for financial aid to students preparing for the Christian ministry, preference is given to students from the Chicago Classis.

HERMAN '22 AND MARGARET TRUMPEN ‘24 BEUKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund for deserving students with preference given to those entering the medical profession or a related field.

DAVID BEYER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established by the family and friends of David Beyer, loyal Christian with commitment to others, who died as the result of an automobile accident in 1985. This scholarship is established to provide financial aid to a junior or senior student, who by example has provided leadership on campus and has given evidence of personal commitment to Christian values. Preference given to students studying in the areas of religion and psychology.

RAYMOND J. AND JOHANNA H. BLAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established through the Cornelius P. and Mildred R. Blay Trust, in memory of Raymond and Johanna Blay, to provide assistance to deserving students.

RUTH BLEKKINK '17 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide financial aid to deserving students, with preference given to those pursuing a career in education. Given by Victor J. Blekkink.

VICTOR J. BLEKKINK '09 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide financial aid to students whose lives evidence the Hope spirit. Given by friends of Victor J. Blekkink, Reformed Church pastor and close friend of the college.

JOHN A. '63 AND SHARON CADY '63 BLOM EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Recognizing a family legacy of Hope graduates, this fund has been established by John A. '63 and Sharon Cady '63 Blom. Scholarships are awarded to deserving juniors and seniors with financial need who are pursuing a career in teaching at the elementary or secondary level.

MAX '46 AND CONNIE '49 BOERSMA SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A scholarship fund established to honor the Boersmas, by their friends and colleagues.

HENRIETTA BONTEKOE SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Henrietta Bontekoe in memory of her parents, Albert and Suzanne Overway. The scholarship provides assistance to deserving nursing students, with preference given to those supplementing their education with work experience.

REBECCA BOSSERD SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This scholarship fund was established in appreciation for Rebecca Bosserd who exhibited true servant leadership for the 2005-2006 Championship Flying Dutch who won the NCAA Division III Title. The scholarship is to be awarded to students with financial need who have show signs of servant leadership and/or volunteerism at any level and may be awarded to a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior.

DR. LEON A. BOSCH ‘29 AND VIRGINIA FRENCH BOSCH SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund created by Virginia Bosch, Pauline Bosch Witteveen, and Martin Witteveen to provide financial assistance to deserving students, with preference given to students entering the field of business or management.

ELLERIE PAIGE BOS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This scholarship was established by the family of Ellerie Bos, infant daughter of Rita Assink ‘96 Bos and Mark Bos, to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a career in elementary education.

IVAN A. '28 AND ADLYN BOSMAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established through a bequest from Ivan and Adlyn Bosman, this scholarship provides financial assistance for deserving students, with preference given to those interested in pre-engineering.

NELSON '31 AND LOIS DRESSEL '30 BOSMAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Gary and Marguerite Bosman Bowen and their children, Rebecca Bowen '90 Wierda and Amy Bowen, in memory of their parents and grandparents. The scholarship provides assistance to deserving students, with preference given to students majoring in communications, political science, or business administration.

BOUWENS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—An endowed fund established to honor Glenn '50 and Lila Bouwens, by their family. First preference is given to students with financial need from the Reformed Church in America and from Ottawa County.

RONALD '50 AND ELIZABETH BOVEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Ron '50 and Elizabeth Boven to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students with financial need.

BRANCH SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This fund is for students who display academic ability, financial need, and above all a sense of purpose and direction in their Christian faith regardless of their career. Given by Kurt Van Genderen, President of Branch Capital Management, and his wife, Beverly Joeckel Van Genderen.

CLARENCE '29 AND DOROTHY STROOP '29 BREMER SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Clarence Bremer in memory of his wife, Dorothy, to provide assistance to deserving students.

DR. IRWIN BRINK '52 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to outstanding chemistry students engaged in independent research with faculty. This scholarship is made in honor of Dr. Irwin J. Brink, Professor Emeritus of Chemistry (1957-1966) and former Dean of Natural Sciences (1983-1988) in recognition of his dedication and contributions to Hope College and its students.

JOHN BRINK, JR. '30 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established by Al ’59 and Phyllis Brink ‘58 Bursma and Bruce ‘60 and Patty DeJong ‘63 Brink in memory of their father, John Brink Jr. The scholarship provides assistance to students with financial need from outside of Michigan.

REFORMED CHURCH OF BRONXVILLE SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund for deserving students.

PHILLIPS BROOKS SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Brooks Beverage Management in memory of its founder, Mr. Phillips Brooks, to provide annual scholarship assistance to deserving students, with preference given to students majoring in business administration.

BROOKSTRA SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This fund was established through the generosity of the family of Dr. Arthur Brookstra and in special recognition of Miss Mardelle Brookstra, a longtime employee of Hope College.

JIM '85 AND BRENDA BROUCEK SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Jim and Brenda Broucek to provide assistance to deserving students, with a preference given to those students who have declared either a business administration with an accounting concentration or math degree.

ERIKA BRUBAKER '92 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. Recipients will be juniors or seniors majoring in English, with first preference given to those whose primary emphasis is the study of literature. Given in Erika's memory by her mother, Dr. Inara Brubaker.

JOHN H. '15 AND CORNELIA W. BRUGGERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide scholarship aid to students pursuing a career in Christian ministry.

BENJAMIN J. BUCKHOUT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established in memory of Benjamin J. Buckhout to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. Ben touched the lives of many faculty, staff, and students in the few short weeks he attended Hope, and the Spirit of God was made manifest because of his death.

MARTHA TUCKER ‘63 BULTMAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Hope’s Board of Trustees to honor Martha (Martie) Tucker Bultman, Hope Class of 1963, for her extraordinary efforts to promote and support the college. Scholarships will be awarded to two senior students majoring in special education as recommended by the department faculty, with preference given to those who have served in Holland’s Special Education Ministry Program.

BUSMAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—To be awarded to deserving students with financial need.

MARY BUSSING SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund from the estate of Miss Mary Bussing to provide scholarship aid for students of ability, leadership and educational purpose.

SHIRLEY ANN DECKER '55 BUTH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established by Ann Decker in memory of Peter Decker, her husband, and Shirley Ann Decker Buth, their daughter. The income from this fund shall be used to provide scholarships for deserving students with financial need.

BUTEYN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund has been established in honor of John E. (Jack) Buteyn Jr., and his father Dr. John E. Buteyn for the combined 90 years of service in the Reformed Church of America. The scholarship is to be awarded to any deserving student who is a member of the Reformed Church in America (RCA).


C

EVELYN SPALLINGER CAMPBELL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Kermit and Sallie Campbell in memory of his mother. It provides assistance to deserving students, with preference given to students pursuing studies in both the natural sciences and the arts or humanities, in preparation for leadership in a complex, technological age.

GENE C. CAMPBELL '51 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established by family and friends in memory of Gene Campbell, a loyal and dedicated alumnus. The scholarship provides assistance to deserving juniors or seniors with financial need, who have positive attitudes and a sincere interest in people.

CHELSEA MILLING COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A scholarship funded by Chelsea Milling Company, manufacturers of “JIFFY” baking mixes, for deserving students with financial need. Preference will be given to students from Washtenaw County.

DR. HENRY A. CHRISTIAN FAMILY FUND—A fund to provide scholarship aid to a worthy student who desires higher education leading to a profession in medicine, nursing, biology, or teaching. Established by Dr Henry A. Christian.

CLASS OF 1987 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established initially by President and Mrs. Gordon J. Van Wylen at the time of their retirement in 1987. Members of the Class of 1987 subsequently added to the scholarship fund, which provides financial assistance to deserving students.

CLAVER SCHOLARSHIPS—A fund established by the family of George and Dorothy Claver to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. The George Claver scholarship will be given to students pursuing careers in chemistry or computer science. The Dorothy Claver scholarship will be given to students who intend to pursue a career in teaching or major in music. The scholarships will be given in alternating years.

RUTH NIBBELINK '26 COMSTOCK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund for deserving students, with preference given to those majoring in mathematics. Established by the estate of Ruth Nibblelink Comstock.

PETER AND EMAJEAN COOK SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A scholarship fund established by Peter and Emajean Cook to provide financial assistance to deserving students interested in business and the free enterprise system.

RALPH ('49) AND PHYLLIS ('48) CORNELL SCHOLARSHIP—A scholarship for deserving students with financial need established by Ralph and Phyllis Cornell.
JANET J. CRAMER SCHOLARSHIP FUND - A fund established by the estate of Janet J. Cramer, a friend of the college. First preference is given to members of the Reformed Church in America.

DORIS BOERSMA DAHL ART SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by family and friends in memory of Doris Boersma Dahl. The Scholarship provides assistance to promising art students, as recommended by the art faculty.

DALEBOUT SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Richard and Marie Dalebout to assist deserving students with financial need.

GEORGE B. AND ANNA B. DALMAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Dalman in memory of George B. and Anna B. Dalman to provide financial assistance to deserving and properly motivated students.

MARGARET DALMAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide scholarship aid for worthy students.

CLARENCE P. DAME '13 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide aid to students who are preparing for full-time Christian service in the Reformed Church in America and who are in financial need. Priority is given to students from the Second Reformed Church of Kalamazoo and the Classis of Kalamazoo. Given by Clarence P. Dame, leader in the R.C.A. denomination.

EUGENE F. '28 AND THERESA MOOI '28 DAMSTRA SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund for deserving students, originally established by Dr .Eugene F. Damstra in memory of his wife, Theresa Mooi Damstra, and added to through Dr. Damstra's estate.

DANGREMOND TRIO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund for deserving students, with preference for those majoring in vocal or instrumental music. Established by Dr. and Mrs. E. H. Dangremond in memory of Doris Dangremond, Florence Dangremond and Lois Dangremond Flenner. The Dangremonds are the grandchildren of The Reverend Gerrit Dangremond, valedictorian of the first graduating class of Hope College in 1866.

ROBERT '47 AND MARGUERITE DANHOF SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Robert J. Danhof and Marguerite T. Den Herder Danhof to provide assistance to deserving students, with preference given to those pursuing a career in law or planning to major in political science.

BERNADINE SIEBERS DE VALOIS SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This scholarship fund was established from the estate of Bernadine Siebers De Valois (class of 1930), an inspirational woman, surgeon and medical missionary to India. Funds will be awarded to junior and senior students with a preference given to those entering careers in a field for medical missions or underserved areas.

NEIL F. DEBOER '66 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Ken and Jean Assink, and J.C. and Laurie Huizenga in honor of Neil DeBoer, partner in DeBoer, Baumann & Co., CPAs in recognition of his leadership in the West Michigan business community and his contributions to Hope's scholastic excellence as a former professor. This scholarship will provide assistance to deserving students who demonstrate an economic need, with preference given to students majoring in accounting.

ADRIAN '25 AND MYRTLE E. deBOOM SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established in memory of Hope College President Edward D. Dimnent, 1918-1931.

RICHARD DECKER '56 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established through a grant from Abbott Laboratories in honor of Richard Decker, who was named Researcher of the Year at Abbott in 1988. The scholarship provides assistance to deserving students, with preference given to those majoring in chemistry.

WILLARD G. '39 AND BARBARA DEGROOT SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established to provide scholarships to outstanding students at Hope, with preference given to a graduate of Holland High School majoring in economics or business administration. Mr. Willard G. DeGroot served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Hope College.

WILLIAM DEHAAN '28 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund awarded annually to any student demonstrating financial need.

DELOOF-TIEN MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide assistance to deserving students expressing interest in a major in music. First preference will be given to declared majors. Established by John '52 and Yvonne DeLoof '52 Tien and Family.

DEN HERDER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by members of the Den Herder family to honor Robert J. Den Herder. Preference is given to deserving students with financial need from Ottawa and Charlevoix Counties majoring in business and economics.

ROBERT N. ‘56 AND MARCIA J. ‘55 DE YOUNG SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This scholarship was established by friends and family in recognition of Bob De Young’s thirty-five years of service to Hope College in the areas of Student Development and College Advancement. In recognition of Bob’s and Marcia’s lifelong commitment to the field of education, preference will be given to students with financial need who are intending to become educators.

established by Robert '58 and Mary Katherine Diephuis '58 Andree to assist deserving students with financial need, with preference given to students entering nursing, medicine, or the health professions.

LAMONT '50 AND RUTH '50 DIRKSE EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Lamont and Ruth DeGraaf Dirkse and their family to provide scholarship aid to a junior student recommended by the Education Department who is pursuing a career in teaching at the elementary or secondary level. Dr. Dirkse served as a professor in the Education Department and as Dean of Students. He and his wife, also a teacher, enjoyed all facets of Hope College life.

REVEREND JOHN F. HEEMSTRA (1895) SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established in 1997 by Marie '18 and Clarence '19 Heemstra. The scholarship is to be awarded to a Hope College senior, junior, sophomore or freshman student who is eligible for financial aid, has demonstrated academic achievement and is committed to the Christian faith. First consideration will be give to a senior, followed by a junior, sophomore and then a freshman in that order, with the understanding that the student will be planning to serve in a church related vocation after graduation. If the scholarship is awarded to an underclassman it is understood that the scholarship will continue to be awarded to that student until graduation as long as academic achievement and commitment to the Christian faith is maintained.

Scholarships are awarded to juniors and seniors demonstrating a commitment to graduate school in the biological or chemical sciences, with preference given to biochemistry. Established by William H. Holleman through the estate of his parents, Hilbert and Norma Holleman. In addition, the fund has been added to by William H. Holleman (chemistry major) and his wife Mary "Betty" Roters Holleman (biology major).

JOHN HOLLENBACH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by the friends, colleagues and former students of John W. Hollenbach to award an annual scholarship to a Hope College junior or senior majoring in English.

ROBERT L. HOLT '60 MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established by Robert L Holt '60, to provide financial assistance to students who are music majors. Preference will be given to a minority student.

ROBERT HOLT MATHEMATICS SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Robert Holt, Class of 1960, to benefit students with need who are majoring in Mathematics.

HOOGERHYDE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Douglas M. Hoogerhyde '77 and David M. Hoogerhyde '49 to provide financial aid to deserving students pursuing careers in business administration.

HOPE ACADEMY OF SENIOR PROFESSIONALS (HASP) SCHOLARSHIP FUND—Established by the membership of the Hope Academy of Senior Professionals to provide scholarships to students with financial need and demonstrating potential for academic excellence. Student recipients must be entering their junior year. The scholarship may be renewed for an additional year contingent upon maintaining high academic achievement.

HOPE HERITAGE FUND—A common fund established by friends and alumni of the college, primarily through memorial gifts, to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students.

HOPE REFORMED CHURCH GRANT FUND—Established by Hope Reformed Church of Kalamazoo, Michigan, to provide financial assistance to students from the church family.

LEON ‘37 AND JOHANNA BOLTE ‘35 HOPKINS SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Johanna Hopkins to provide financial assistance to deserving students with preference given to students pursuing careers in business or economics.

HOVINGA FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This scholarship was established by Jim '77 and Debbie Hovinga to provide assistance to deserving students.

ELIZABETH I. HUIZENGA SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Mrs. Elizabeth Huizenga to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students from the Chicago area who evidence a strong Christian commitment, with preference to students from Timothy Christian High School, or Fountain of Life Church.

SCOTT A. AND KIM M. HUIZENGA SCIENCE EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established to aid full-time students enrolled in a Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Geology, Mathematics or Physics program who are not seeking a career in medicine. The recipients must be entering their Junior year and be active members in any of the following Hope College sororities: Sorosis, Delta Phi, Dorian, Sibylline, Alpha Gamma Phi, Kappa Delta Chi, or Delta Sigma Theta; or fraternities: Fraternal, Cosmopolitan, Centurian, Emersonian, Arcadian, or Phi Sigma Kappa. The recipients will be chosen by the Dean for the Natural Sciences and the Natural Science Department Chairs in collaboration with the Financial Aid Office of Hope College.

HUNTINGTON BANK SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established in memory of Robert J. Den Herder, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the corporation, to provide scholarships for deserving students, with preference given to those interested in business careers.

KAREN ICE SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students from the upper Midwest with a demonstrated interest in Sociology or Social Work. Given by Carl and Mary Ice in honor of their daughter, Karen Ice '03.

RALPH '64 AND PEGGY JACKSON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Ralph and Peggy Jackson to provide assistance to students with financial need, with preference given to students who graduated from Frankfort (Michigan) High School.

JOHN AND JEANNE JACOBSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This scholarship was established by Drs. John and Jeanne Jacobson to provide assistance to deserving students.

JELLEMA SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to honor the memory of R. Dirk Jellema, professor of English, 1964-1993, to provide scholarship assistance to deserving international students with preference given to students from African Nations.

ARTHUR JENTZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—To assist students with financial need. First preference will be given to students majoring in philosophy.

HAROLD AND MABEL JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Mabel P. Johnson in memory of her husband, Mr. Harold F. Johnson, to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need.

JOHNSON-HENRICH SCHOLARSHIPS—A fund to provide scholarship aid to worthy students. Established by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Johnson in memory of Mrs. Johnson's father, Frederick Henrich.

MILDRED POTTER '40 JOLDERSMA SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established in honor of Mildred Potter Joldersma, by her husband, Alfred T. Joldersma '40, and their children. The fund provides scholarship assistance to deserving students with financial need.

WILLIS AND FLORENCE JONKER SCHOLARSHIP FUND——The Willis and Florence Jonker Scholarship was established in 1999 by their children Margo Jonker and Duane '75 Jonker-Burke. This scholarship is awarded to any deserving first year student with preference given to female students.

GINGER HUIZENGA '64 JURRIES SCHOLARSHIP FUND IN ENGLISH—An endowed scholarship fund created by Jim '63 and Ginger '64 Jurries to assist deserving students with financial need majoring in English, with preference given to students pursuing an interest in journalism or creative writing.

JIM JURRIES '63 SCHOLARSHIP FUND IN BUSINESS—An endowed scholarship fund created by Jim '63 and Ginger '64 Jurries to assist deserving students with financial need majoring in Economics and Business Administration, with preference given to students pursuing an interest in management, business development, or entrepreneurial enterprise.

JURRIES FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to assist Hope students with financial need to attend the Vienna Summer School Program. Students eligible for this award are those entering their junior or senior year. Given by James '63 and Virginia Huizenga '64 Jurries.

KAMP SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by James Peter Kamp '61 for students with financial need.

GORDON E. AND KAREN KAMSTRA SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A scholarship fund given through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon E. Kamstra to provide financial assistance to deserving students at the conclusion of the sophomore year, with preference given to students majoring in business. This fund was established in memory of Mr. Gordon E. Kamstra, a Christian businessman who served as founder and president of Quality Air Heating and Cooling in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

ANTONIETTE KIEFT SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A scholarship fund created by Antoinette Kieft to provide financial assistance to deserving students. First preference will be given to students pursuing careers in business and/or accounting.

JOHN A. ’63 AND JOYCE DEKORVER ’65 KIEFT SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This fund is established to support students with financial need who have demonstrated academic ability with preference given to those who are majoring in one of the natural sciences or computer science.

KEIZER SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established for students with financial need, by Clifford '39 and Ruth Keizer, with preference given to science majors with an interest in music.

KELDER-MAAS SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kelder and Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Maas. To be awarded to deserving Christian students with financial need. Preference is given to students from Olivet Reformed Church in Grandville, Michigan. Given by Leonard and Marjorie Maas.

JOHN L. KEMINK '71 SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established in memory of Dr. John L. Kemink, by his family, to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students with financial need, with preference given to students who plan to enter the field of medicine.

KEMPKER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by David ’54 Kempker and Mary Lammers ’60 Kempker, and their children, to assist deserving students with financial need, with preference given to students pursuing service careers.

REVEREND JOHN A. '18 AND DEANE WEERSING '21 KLAAREN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide scholarship aid to worthy students, with preference given to those pursuing a career in full-time Christian ministry.

ADRIAN, FLORENCE AND A. JOHN KLAASEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide assistance to deserving juniors and seniors who have demonstrated financial need and plan to major in economics or business administration. Established in memory of Florence and Dr. Adrian Klaasen, professor of business administration at Hope from 1947 to 1968.

HAROLD '31 AND MARJORIE SCHOLTEN '35 KLAASEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Marjorie Klaasen and family, to provide assistance to deserving women.

RUSSELL '32 AND ELIZABETH '32 KLAASEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund to provide financial assistance to capable and needy students working toward a career as a minister or missionary. Funded by Russell Klaasen and friends.

PAUL AND JACKI KLEINHEKSEL SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This scholarship was established by Jacki and Paul Kleinheksel to provide assistance to deserving students with preference given to students from single family homes.

J. FRED AND IRENE KOBES SCHOLARSHIP FUND—A fund established by Dr. Rodger Kobes ’63, Albert ’66 and Darlene Kobes ‘67 Oosterhof, in honor of their parents. The scholarship provides assistance for students pursuing a career in medicine,
