Hope Golfers at Nationals

1987 Hope finished 17th in a field of 21 teams at the NCAA Division III championships in Mansfield, Ohio. Hope golfers with their per-round average over the 72-hole tournament were Todd Barckholtz, 78.3; Brian Westveer, 78.3; Quinn Smith, 80.5; Steve Knott, 81.3; and Rolfe Timmerman, 82.8.
1988 Hope finished 17th in a field of 21 teams at the NCAA Division III championships in Greensboro, N.C. Hope golfers with their per-round average over the 72-hole tournament were Dave Tull, 79.7; Brian Westveer, 80.0; Todd Barckholtz, 81.0; Steve Knott, 81.3; and Guy Samples, 85.0.
1994 Frank Gauntt tied for 51st place in a field of 120 golfers at NCAA Division III championships in Fayetteville, N.C. He averaged 79.3 strokes per 18-holes over the 72-hole tournament.
1999 Eric Wohlfield tied for 19th place in a field of 120 golfers at the NCAA Division III championships in Williamstown, Mass. He averaged 76.8 strokes per 18-holes over the 72-hole tournament.
2000 Hope finished in a tie for 17th in a field of 23 teams at the NCAA Division III championships in Battle Creek, Mich. Hope golfers with their per-round average over the weather abbreviated 54-hole tournament were Aaron Vandenberg, 77.3; Eric Wohlfield, 78.7; Mike Feyen, 79.3; Everett Leonard, 79.7; and Chris Rutan, 81.6.
2002 Eric Wohfield finished 51st in a field of 120 players at the NCAA Division III championships in Lincoln, Neb. He averaged 79.0 strokes per 18-holes over the 72-hole tournament.
2006 Hope finished 17th in a field of 23 teams at the NCAA Division III championships in Lincoln, Neb. Hope golfers with their per-round average over the 72-hole tournament were Tommy Yamaoka, 77.3; Matt Lapham, 78.3; Nate Golomb, 79.3; Ryan Sheets, 80.0; and Steve Martindale, 83.0.
2007 Hope finished 18th in a field of 35 teams at the NCAA Division III championships in Carmel and Fishers, Ind. Hope golfers with their per-round average over the 72-hole tournament were Tommy Yamaoka, 76.5; Nate Golomb, 78.5; Steve Martindale, 81.5; Ryan Sheets, 82.0; and Matt Lapham, 83.8.

  • Eric Wohlfield holds the MIAA career record for the best cumulative score per 18-hole tournament round. In 30 conference tournaments from 1998-01, Wohlfield averaged 74.4 strokes per round.

  • Ryan Shedd tied the MIAA record for the best 18-hole round, a 67, at the Clearbrook Golf Club on September 29, 2003. The mark was broken in 2005.

    National Honors

    1999 Eric Wohlfield was presented the Softspikes Freshman of the Year award as the outstanding freshman among all NCAA Division III freshman golfers during the 1998-99 season.
    2004 Tommy Yamaoka was named to the Division III National all-freshman team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
    2007 Tommy Yamaoka was named a Ping Second Team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
