Season Ends for Both Hope Golf Teams (4/27/13)
Men's Qualifier Results / Women's Qualifier Results
Neither Hope team will advance to the NCAA championship. At the men's MIAA qualifier this weekend regular season champion Calvin gained the post-season berth. Hope finished fourth in the four-team qualifier -- 1. Calvin 956. 2. Adrian 961. 3. Trine 965. 4. Hope 968. In the women's qualifier, the Flying Dutch finished third -- 1. Olivet 322. 2. Saint Mary's 335. 3. Hope 340. 4. Calvin 359.
Flying Dutchmen Fifth at Invitational (4/16/13)
The Flying Dutchmen were part of a three-way tie for fifth place in the nine-team Knight Invitational hosted by Calvon on Tuesday. Davenport led the field with 318 strokes followed by Cornerston 325, Grand Rapids CC 330, and Calvin 331. Hope, Albion and Olivet each scored 334 strokes. Rounding out the field were Trinity Christian 342 and Kalamazoo 348. The medalist was Jorge Benitez at 78 strokes. Leading Hope were John Cannon and Jared Lehman at 83 followed by Ben Lewis 84, Ben Lanting 84 and Adam Peplinski 85.
Flying Dutchmen Second at NCAA Qualifier (4/13/13)
Regular season MIAA champion Calvin on Saturday won the first of three rounds in the qualifier that will determine who represents the conference at the NCAA Championship in May. In an 18-hole round played in winter-like conditions at Hope's home course (Wuskowhan PC), the Knights totaled 304 strokes followed by Hope 311, Adrian 313 and Trine 318. The medalist was David Sarkipato of Calvin with a one-under-par 70. Leading Hope was Graham VanderHeide at 76, followed by Ben Lewis and Collin Breit at 78 each, Evan Telzerow 79 and John Cannon 82. The second and third rounds will be host by Calvin next weekend.
Flying Dutchmen Finish Second in Indiana Tournament (4/6/13)
The Flying Dutchmen finished second among 12-teams at the St. Francis Invitational in Fort Wayne, Ind. The two-day tournament concluded Saturday. Bethel, Ind. led the field at 588 strokes while Hope's golfers totaled 596. Leading Hope over the 36-hole tournament was Collin Breit 71-77--148 followed by Ben Lewis 69-80--149, Evan Telzerow 75-76--151, Graham Vanderheide 81-70--151, John Cannon 78-80--148 and Ben Lanting 81-84--165.
Flying Dutchmen Tie Opponent in Dual Match (3/23/13)
The Flying Dutchmen concluded their pre-season spring break training with a dual match at Transylvania, Ky. The teams ended in a 310-310 tie. Scores of Hope players: John Cannon, 41-43--84; Evan Telzerow, 41-50--91; Collin Briet, 38-36--74; Ben Lewis, 38-42--80; Graham Vanderheide, 40-44--84. In a practive round earlier in the week captain John Cannon made his first hole-in-one.
2013 Spring Outlook
By finishing second in the fall standings of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), the Flying Dutchmen will continue their season by competing in the league's NCAA Qualifying Tournament this spring.
The top four teams in the standings (Calvin, Hope, Adrian and Trine) will compete for the right to advance to the NCAA Division III championships to be held May 14-17 in Destin, Fla. As league runnerup, Hope will host the first of the three 18-hole qualifying rounds on April 13. League champion Calvin will host the second and third rounds on April 19-20.
Last fall the Flying Dutchmen finished just 10 strokes behind champion Calvin over eight tournament rounds. Sophomore Collin Breit (Muskegon/West Michigan Christian HS), achieved All-MIAA first team recognition by finishing fifth in the seasonal standings behind a 76.0 strokes per round average.
2012 Fall Season in Review
Flying Dutchmen Compete in Season-Ending Tournament (10/10/12)
With the league campaign behind them, the Flying Dutchmen are competing in a two-day tournament with 13 other teams at the Egypt Valley Country Club. After Wednesday's round, coach Bob Ebels' Dutchmen are in seventh place. Wheaton leads the field at 316 strokes while Hope has 333.

MIAA Men's Golf Standings
The Flying Dutchmen finished second behind rival Calvin in the final MIAA standings. The season's last tournament was held Tuesday at The Medalist golf course. Coach Bob Ebels' Dutchmen cut into Calvin's league-leading margin, but ended 10 strokes behind the champions in the final standings.
Adrian won Tuesday's round at 312 strokes followed by Hope 319, Calvin 324, Albion 328, Alma 332, Trine 334, Olivet 335 and Kalamazoo 356. Sharing medalist honors were Adrian teammates Brandon Skytta and Cameron McKee at 76 strokes. Sophomore Evan Telzerow led Hope at 78 strokes followed by Collin Breit 79, Graham Vanderheide 80, Ben Lewis 82 and John Cannon 88.
Calvin ended the eight-tournament season at 2,446 strokes followed by Hope 2,456, Adrian 2,473, Trine 2,475, Alma 2,518, Albion 2,531, Olivet 2,542 and Kalamazoo 2,613.

Flying Dutchmen Win League Jamboree; Move Into Second (10/6/12)
The Flying Dutchmen served notice that the league race isn't over yet. Coach Bob Ebels entered Monday's MIAA Jamboree in third place and trailing league-leading Calvin by 27 strokes. They finished Monday's round 12 strokes better than the league leader and are now in second place trailing by 15 strokes. They'll have one more round to catch the Knights.
Hope sophomore Collin Breit won medalist honors over the Watermark golf course at 33-39--72. Teammate Ben Lewis was two strokes behind at 74 followed by teammates Graham Vaneerheide 75, Evan Telzenow 78 and John Cannon 40-43--83.
The Flying Dutchmen ended at 299 strokes followed by Trine 310, Calvin 311, Adrian 313, Kalamazoo 319, Olivet 320, Alma 323 and Albion 330. After seven rounds Calvin is at 2,122 followed by Hope 2,137, Trine 2,141, Adrian 2,161, Alma 2,186, Albion 2,203, Olivet 2,207 and Kalamazoo 2,257.
The last league Jamboree will be Tuesday, Oct. 9, hosted by Albion at the Medalist golf course in Marshall.
Flying Dutchmen Second at MIAA Jambore (9/29/12)
The Flying Dutchmen finished second in the conference Jamboree hosted by Alma on Saturday. Through six conference rounds the Flying Dutchmen are in third place. League-leading Calvin won the round to expand its lead in the seasonal standings. Hope is 27 strokes behind the leader, but trails second place Trine by only seven strokes with two league rounds yet to play.
Leading Hope was Collin Breit at 74 strokes followed by teammates Graham Vanderheide 76, John Cannon 77, Ben Lewis 78 and Evan Telzerow 84. Cannon ranks seventh in the seasonal standings at 75.8 strokes per round.
Flying Dutchmen Inch Up in MIAA Race (9/27/12)
The Flying Dutchmen picked up ground in the MIAA race by finishing second in the Jamboree hosted by Trine. The host Thunder won the round at 288 strokes while Hope totaled 291. League leading Calvin was fourth at 297. With three rounds remaining, Calvin has a 13 stroke lead over Trine and 23 stroke advantage over third place Hope. The medalist was Nolan Eli of Trine at 69 strokes. Hope's Ben Lewis was second just a stroke behind (70). Other Hope scores were Evan Telzerow 71, John Cannon 74, Collin Breit 76 and Kevin Cross 81.
Flying Dutchmen Stay a Consistent Third (9/24/12)
The Flying Dutchmen finished third in hosting the MIAA Jamboree on Monday
at the Wuskowhan Players Club. Frontrunner Calvin expanded its lead in the standings
to 22 strokes by capturing the round on a windy afternoon at 304 strokes, followed
by Alma 315, Hope 320, Albion 321, Adrian 323, Trine 324, Olivet 331 and Kalamazoo
After four rounds Calvin has 1,213 strokes followed by Trine 1,235, Hope 1,242, Adrian 1,248, Alma 1,255, Albion 1,258, Olivet 1,270 and Kalamazoo 1,305.
Medalist on Monday was Calvin's Dave Sarkipato at 34-39--73. Leading Hope was John Cannon at 40-36--76. Scores of other Hope golfers were Collin Breit 39-40--79, Ben Lewis 39-41--80, Eva Telzerow 43-42--85 and Adam Peplinski 46-43--89.
John Cannon moved up to fifth in the seasonal standings at 304 strokes. The leader is Marty Predmesky of Alma at 295.
Flying Dutchmen Remain Third in MIAA Race (9/19/12)
The Flying Dutchmen finished third in Wednesday's MIAA Jamboree to remain third in the seasonal standings. Rival Calvin won the Jamboree hosted by Olivet to remain atop the league standings. After three rounds the Flying Dutchmen trail the Knights by 13 strokes.
Calvin ended Wednesday's round at 305 strokes followed by Trine 307, Hope and Adrian 311 each, Albion and Alma 315 each, Olivet 321 and Kalamazoo 337. Leading Hope was sophomore Collin Breit at 38-38--76 followed by Ben Lewis 35-42--77, John Cannon 39-39--78, Kevin Cross 38-42--80 and Evan Telzerow 41-40--81.
Calvin's seasonal total is 909 strokes followed by Trine 911, Hope 922, Adrian 925, Albion 937, Olivet 939, Alma 940 and Kalamazoo 966.
Flying Dutchmen Slip to Third in MIAA Race (9/15/12)
Hope tied for fifth place in the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Adrian on Saturday dropping the Flying Dutchmen into third place in the seasonal standings. Rival Calvin won the Jamboree at 295 strokes followed by Trine 302, Adrian 308, Albion 308, Hope 309, Olivet 309, Alma 310 and Kalamazoo 313. Hope was led by Evan Telzerow at 38-37--75, followed by John Cannon 39-37--76, Collion Breit 40-37--77, Ben Lewis 40-41--81 and Kevin Cross 41-42--83. Calvin and Trine top the seasonal standings at 604 strokes while Hope is seven strokes behind at 611, followed by Adrian 614, Olivet 618, Albion 622, Alma 625 and Kalamazoo 629.
Flying Dutchmen Open Title Defense With Win (9/8/12)
The defending MIAA champion Flying Dutchmen opened defense of their title Saturday by tying for first place in the first of seven
conference jamborees. Coach Bob Ebels' Dutchmen tied with Trine at 302 strokes followed by Adrian 306, Calvin 309, Olivet 309,
Albion 314, Alma 315 and host Kalamazoo 316. Captain John Cannon and sophomore Evan Telzerow tied for team honors at 74 strokes followed by Collin Breit 76, Kevin Cross 78 and Paul Bardenhagen 81.
Flying Dutchmen Seventh in Season-Opening Tournament (9/1/12)
The Flying Dutchmen finished seventh at the 36-hole Collins Memorial Tournament hosted by Olivet this weekend. Indiana Wesleyan led the 15-team field with a score of 582 strokes. Hope ended at 622 strokes. Leading Hope was sophomore Collin Breit at 79-74--153 followed by John Cannon 77-77-154, Evan Telzerow 78-78--156, Ben Lewis 79-80--159 and Ben Lanting 81-81--162.
