Hope College Statement on Tax-Deductible
Fundraising for Mission and Service Initiatives

Hope College welcomes charitable contributions supporting mission and service initiatives. All college service and mission trips must be approved by Hope College and have a college liaison assigned to the program, including off-campus travel. Any approved mission trip must also include more than one currently-enrolled Hope student.

Hope College will serve as the fund administrator of all service and mission trip program funds.

All checks will be payable to Hope College. Memo designations are acceptable only to trips and programs, not to specific student participants.

Any mention of a specific participant negates the tax deductibility as required by IRS standards (pub. 526).

Other fundraising efforts (e.g., bake sales, raffles, car washes, can drives) require the completion of a Solicitation/Fundraising request form available on the College Advancement and Student Development websites. These requests must be approved by the vice president for College Advancement.

Questions should be directed to College Advancement and will be reviewed by the college’s Gift Acceptance Committee.
