Mission
The mission of the Hope College Parents’ Council is to
serve Hope parents and families by fostering communication and continuing
dialogue among parents, families, and the College and to serve as
ambassadors in efforts to promote and support the College and its
mission.
Purpose
- To provide a vehicle for communication
between the parent community and the College.
- To help identify and address
needs and concerns of Hope College parents.
- To guide the members of the parent
community toward increased support, understanding and enthusiasm
for Hope College and its mission.
- To develop the parent community
as a resource for the College and its students.
Responsibilities and Activities
- Provide a forum for discussion
among College administrators, parents, and families.
- Assist in the development and
implementation of programs and volunteer activities that engage
parents in the Hope community and benefit the College.
- Promote the development of the
College and its students by encouraging parental support of the
Hope Fund and other financial projects.
Council members are primarily engaged
in activities in support of the following:
Admissions/Student Recruitment
Parents’ Council members work with the Admissions Office
to support student recruitment efforts. Activities may include,
but are not limited to, participating in local college fairs,
placing phone calls to parents of new students, and hosting regional
activities.
Career Development
Parents’ Council members work with the Office of Career
Services to support career development and networking efforts.
Activities may include, but are not limited to, sharing career
advice and professional expertise with current students and graduates,
acquainting recent graduates with a new locale, and helping identify
internship and job placement opportunities for Hope students and
graduates.
College Advancement
Parents’ Council members work with the Office of College
Advancement to promote and encourage parental support of the Hope
Fund and other financial projects. Activities may include, but
are not limited to, hosting parent donor receptions, writing appeal
letters, placing phone calls or sending notes to thank parents
for their contributions.
Parent Outreach & Communication
Parents’ Council members work with the Director of Parent
Relations and the Office of Student Development to develop, plan,
and implement programs, events, and volunteer activities that
benefit the College and engage parents in the Hope community.
Activities may include, but are not limited to, assisting with
Parent Orientation and Parents’ Weekend, working with Campus
Ministries to engage parents in monthly prayer requests of the
College, and coordination of regional events.
The number of parents interested in
serving on the Parents' Council may exceed the number of positions
available.
Careful consideration is given in appointing members based on geographical
and ethnic diversity, as well as career and volunteer experience.
