College Community Donates
Easter Gifts to CASA Kids

Posted April 11, 2001

HOLLAND -- The college community has provided an Easter treat for children in the Children's After School Achievement (CASA) program at Hope.

Various students, student groups, faculty and staff members have donated 50 gift baskets to the "Easter Service Project" organized on behalf of CASA by the college's Office of Volunteer Services.

"The campus response to this has been truly wonderful," the office's organizers noted. "The baskets that we've received have all been terrific."

The Monday-Wednesday CASA children and their tutors stopped by the office in the student office block in the DeWitt Center on Wednesday, April 11, to pick up their baskets.

CASA runs year-round, providing substance abuse prevention, cultural awareness, academic and career experiences to at-risk kindergarten through fifth grade students. The program is intended to improve the students' academic performance and help them develop healthy, productive lifestyles. CASA's students meet after school twice per week for two hours per session throughout the school year, and in the mornings during a six-week summer session.
