Summer Repertory Theatres Continues
Cabaret Tradition with G.I. Jive

Posted July 10, 2000

Repertory Theatre is holding its annual cabaret-style show, G.I. Jive, opening July 25th at the Backstreet Brew Pub.

In West Michigan, a great dinner-theatre combination is unique, and this production is definitely not one to be missed. GI Jive swings us back to the dance music of the World War II era, which still holds an appeal for every generation.

Chattenooga Choo Choo, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, and Just the Way You Look Tonight, are among the songs that are always fun to listen to, especially when HSRT actors get in the act.

Featured in GI Jive is the talent of Equity Guest Artist Chip Duford (also seen as Pharaoh/Elvis in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), as well as Sarah Anders, Jessica Baron, Immanuel Guest, Elizabeth Loos, and Quincy T. Marr.  HSRT audiences will remember all of our fantastic cast members from the HSRT production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Fred Tessler returns to HSRT for his seventh season with HSRT, and spreads his talent by serving as Director and Musical Director.  Tessler is also the Musical Director for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and last year's production of Man of La Mancha among many others.  Lighting design is by Nat Budd, and costumes are by Melissa McVay.

This wonderful cabaret experience will be performed on July 25, 26, 27, 29, 31, and August 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, and 9 at the Backstreet Brew Pub on 7th Street downtown Holland (13 West 7th St.).  Curtain time is 8:30 p.m.  Although you will certainly not want to miss the fantastic food, show-only tickets can be purchased for $18.  Tickets for the dinner/cabaret package are $30.

Seating for dinner is between 6 and 7 p.m., and is continental unless otherwise specifically arranged with the ticket office.  The dinner/play option includes 6% sales tax and 15% gratuity.  Cash cocktails are also available.  Tickets are limited, and this is a tremendous deal, so our guests will want to be sure to reserve their places as soon as possible!

While at the box office, be sure to reserve tickets for the other great HSRT productions this summer.  These include: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the classic comedy Tartuffe, a bit of gothic intrigue and humor in The Mystery of Irma Vep, a look into the human condition with Three Viewings, and some time with an old friend in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.  You will also want to be sure and reserve your place at our two children's productions, The Story of Ferdinand and The Enchanted Pig.

Tickets are available now.  The ticket office is located in the DeWitt Center, on the Hope College Campus at the corner of 12th Street and Columbia Avenue.  Prices range from $8-$22 for musicals, and $6-$17 for plays, with discount prices for children 12 and under.  Season coupons, ranging from $37-$66, are also available.  Ticket office hours are 10-5 Monday through Friday, 12-5 on Saturday, and one hour before all show times.  Tickets may also be purchased by calling (616) 395 - 7890.
