HOLLAND -- The Hope College Symphonette will tour
in Canada during the college's forthcoming spring break.
The tour will include six concerts between Friday,
March 16, and Tuesday, March 20. The Symphonette will
perform in Port Huron, Mich., as well as in cities in
Ontario, Canada, including Chatham, Leamington, London,
Ancaster and New Market.
The 43-member Symphonette is under the direction
of Richard Piippo, associate professor of music at Hope.
The group's members are selected from the larger
college symphony orchestra. Through the Symphonette, the
college's department of music is able to offer concerts to
church and school communities some distance from its campus
and, at the same time, afford its more proficient players an
unusual opportunity for group participation and concentrated
study of musical styles.
The Symphonette has made numerous radio and
television appearances, and has presented children's and
youth concerts in addition to its series of formal concerts.
The annual tour has taken the Symphonette from coast to
coast in the U.S. as well as Canada, the British Isles,
Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
