Hope College Women's Chorus to
Perform on Monday, April 8
Posted March 29, 2002
HOLLAND -- The Hope College Women's Chorus will
perform on Monday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial
Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Special guests Twelfth Street Harmony, a men's
close-harmony group, and the early-music ensemble Collegium
Musicum will join the Women's Chorus for part of the
performance.
The chorus will perform a setting of "Fair
Warning," the poem that begins "When I am an old woman, I
shall wear purple." A Norwegian folk song, it mimics the
sound of old women gossiping.
Sacred music to be performed includes a unison
piece, "Serenity," by American composer Charles Ives, and a
spiritual, "I'm Going to Sing!," with several soloists from
the choir.
Three contemporary sacred Latin pieces inspired by
Gregorian chant, "Tantum Ergo" (a Eucharistic hymn by St.
Thomas Aquinas) "Tu es Petrus" ("You are Peter") and "Tota
pulchra es" (a song of praise to the Virgin Mary), will also
be part of the performance.
Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College
Avenue at 12th Street.
