Hope College Orchestra Presents
Last Concert of the Academic Year
Posted April 10, 2002
HOLLAND -- The Hope College Orchestra presents its
final concert of the 2001-02 school year on Friday, April
19, at 8 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The first work on the program will be the
"Slavonic Dances No.1 and 8, Opus 46," by Antonin Dvorak.
The two pieces depict the folk tradition of the Czech
people.
The next work on the program is Claude Debussy's
"Prelude to an Afternoon of a Faun." An exploration of
texture and color, the "Prelude" is a handbook of
orchestration, employing the use of silence, violins in
their lowest register and antique cymbals.
The concert closes with "Mars, the Bringer of
War," "Venus, the Bringer of Peace," "Mercury, the Winged
Messenger" and "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity," from
"Planets" by Gustav Holst.
Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College
Avenue at 12th Street.
