Student Pianists Honored in Hope Bach Competition
Posted April 30, 2003
HOLLAND -- Prizes were awarded to four piano
students following the annual Bach Competition held at Hope
College in conjunction with the conclusion of the spring
semester.
The winners were: junior Sara Bolkema of
Flushing; sophomore Carol Guess of Fort Wayne, Ind.;
freshman Abigail Rockwood of Muskegon; and freshman Lisa
Walters of Channahon, Ill.
The purpose of the annual competition is to
stimulate interest in the keyboard music of J.S. Bach, and
to foster the systematic study of his music from the
Inventions to the Preludes and Fugues and other extended
works. Underwritten each year by Dr. Anthony Kooiker,
professor emeritus of music, the event has been held for 13
consecutive years.
The adjudicator was Roberta Kraft, adjunct
associate professor of music at Hope.
