Hope College Presents Award-Winning
Christian Musician
Michael Card
Posted January 27, 2003
HOLLAND -- Dove award-winning Christian artist and
author Michael Card will perform in Dimnent Memorial Chapel
on Friday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. as part of the Hope College
Christian Music Series.
The veteran musician has released 20 albums,
including his most recent, "Scribbling in the Sand," which
is also the name of his most recent book.
Card has had 19 number-one songs, five Dove Music
awards and seven Dove Music nominations, and has written 13
books.
A five-time ECPA gold medallion book nominee, he
also penned the only Christian song included in the RIAA
list of 365 songs for the 20th century with "El Shaddai."
In his 20-year career, Card has sold over four million
records and 400,000 books.
"Scribbling in the Sand" is a live greatest hits
release featuring visits from many of Card's musical
friends, including Steve Green, Sara Groves, Phil Keaggy and
Kirk Whalum.
While focusing on his past hits, the release also
includes two new songs, including the title track. Card's
recent work focuses on creativity, using the story of Jesus
scribbling in the sand while pondering a response as the
inspiration.
"Creativity does not truly come from the
popularized image of the tormented artist, struggling with
the muse," Card says. "True creativity is born in community
as men and women of God listen to each other and to Him."
Card will also be leading the college's chapel
service on Friday, Feb. 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.
The chapel service is open to the public, and there is no
charge.
Originally scheduled for the Knickerbocker
Theater, the evening concert has been moved to Dimnent
Memorial Chapel to accommodate a larger audience.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance are $10 for the
general public, and $7 for children 18 and under. Tickets
for the general seating concert will be available at the box
office in the theatre lobby of the DeWitt Center Box Office
on Thursday-Friday, Feb. 6-7, and Wednesday-Friday, 12-14,
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The box office can be called at
(616) 395-7890.
Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College
Avenue at 12th Street.
