Present Concert on Friday, Nov. 8

Posted October 28, 2002

HOLLAND -- The Hope College Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble will be presenting a concert on Friday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

It will be an evening of "crossovers," music for symphonic winds influenced by jazz, and symphonic jazz works.

The Wind Symphony portion will include "Desi" by Michael Daugherty, a tribute to Desi Arnez, and "Minton's Playhouse" by James Syler, a tribute to the famous New York nightclub where be-bop was born. The Wind Symphony will also perform pieces by George Gershwin and Shelley Hanson.

The Jazz Ensemble will feature works by Chuck Owen, an arrangement of Ravel's "Pavane," and a special tribute to the recently deceased jazz bassist Ray Brown titled "Thumb String."

Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College Avenue at 12th Street.
