Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble to
Present Concert on
Friday, Nov. 8

HOLLAND -- The Hope College Wind Symphony and Jazz
Ensemble will be presenting a concert on Friday, Nov. 8, at
7 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
It will be an evening of "crossovers," music for
symphonic winds influenced by jazz, and symphonic jazz
works.
The Wind Symphony portion will include "Desi" by
Michael Daugherty, a tribute to Desi Arnez, and "Minton's
Playhouse" by James Syler, a tribute to the famous New York
nightclub where be-bop was born. The Wind Symphony will
also perform pieces by George Gershwin and Shelley Hanson.
The Jazz Ensemble will feature works by Chuck
Owen, an arrangement of Ravel's "Pavane," and a special
tribute to the recently deceased jazz bassist Ray Brown
titled "Thumb String."
Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College
Avenue at 12th Street.
