Comedy "The Game of Love and Chance"
Joins HSRT Season

Posted June 4, 2003

HOLLAND—Switching costumes is one thing, but switching characters? Chaos abounds in Hope Summer Repertory Theatre’s (HSRT) second production of the season, "The Game of Love and Chance."

"The Game of Love and Chance," opens Friday, June 20 at 8 p.m. in the DeWitt Theatre. An 18th century comedy with a timeless theme and ageless humor, Marivaux’s play about love and laughter features some of HSRT’s funniest stars ever.

With Equity Guest Artists Dana Snyder, Brandy McClendon, and Chip Duford, this is a comedy you’ll come back to with your friends.

The play focuses on the idea of class, especially as seen in the servants and masters of the Enlightenment. Monsieur Orgon, played by Duford ("Wizard of Oz," "Charley’s Aunt") wants his daughter, Silvia, to marry Dorante, the son of a friend. Silvia, however, wants to see what Dorante is like before she decides. She convinces her father to let her trade places with her maid, Lisette, played by McClendon ("Wizard of Oz", "Rumors") in order to have a closer look. At the same time, unbeknown to her and Lisette, Dorante and his servant Harlequin, played by Snyder ("Irma Vep," "Charley’s Aunt"), have the same idea.

This interesting comedy with a memorable cast is sure to provide an evening of laughter on the endearing topic of love.

"The Game of Love and Chance" opens June 20 at 8 p.m. in the DeWitt Theatre, and runs on June 21, 24, 26, 28, 30, July 2, 9, 14, and 17. Tickets are also available for the musical favorite, "Guys and Dolls," the riveting drama, "The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial," the timeless musical, "Once Upon a Mattress," September 11 based play, "The Guys," the cabaret show, "The World Goes Round" and the Children’s Performance Troupe’s productions of "Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse" and "Androcles and the Lion."

The ticket office is located in the DeWitt Center, on the Hope College campus, at the corner of 12th Street and Columbia Avenue in Holland. Prices range from $8-$25 for musicals, and $8-$18 for plays. Season coupons, ranging from $42-$60 are also available.
