to Perform Wednesday, Oct. 23
Posted October 9, 2002
HOLLAND -- Grammy-nominated jazz saxophonist Dave
Liebman comes to Hope College on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 8
p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Liebman has established himself as a preeminent
jazz musician and educator. After working with the
pioneering jazz fusion group Ten Wheel Drive, Liebman joined
up with drummer Elvin Jones.
Miles Davis then hired Liebman, and the two shared
the stage and recordings for over four years. After forming
his own band, Liebman later did a world tour with Chick
Corea. He has been a leader of several bands since the
early 1980s.
Liebman was nominated for a Grammy award in 1998
for Best Jazz Solo for his recording of "My Favorite
Things."
He has also published several books, instructional
videos and chamber music, and contributed to a number of
periodicals. He has recorded more than 75 CDs, either as
leader or co-leader, and has been a featured sideman on more
than 150 recordings. His output ranges from straight ahead
to chamber jazz, and from fusion to avant garde.
While at Hope, Liebman will also be leading a
clinic at the Knickerbocker Theatre at 2 p.m.
The Knickerbocker Theatre is located at 86 East
8th St. in downtown Holland.
