Hope College Symphonette to
Perform on Friday, Feb. 21
Posted February 10, 2003
HOLLAND -- The Hope College Symphonette will
perform on Friday, Feb. 21, at 8 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial
Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The program will include the "Pastoral Suite Op.
19," by Lars-Erik Larsson. The three-movement suite
consists of Overture, Romance and Scherzo depicting the
romantic and contemporary musical language of this
Scandinavian composer.
The second work will be "Dance Rhythms Op. 58," by
Wallingford Riegger, an American composer. The work is a
bouncy, strongly syncopated dance piece.
"Premier Rhapsody for Clarinet and Orchestra"
features music faculty member and clarinetist Kristin Ward.
An impressionistic work of the 20th century, the piece takes
the clarinet into technical and musical challenges never
before exhibited.
The program closes with "L'Arlesienne Suite No.
2," by Georges Bizet. The composition features the
Pastorale, Intermezzo, Minuet and Farandole.
Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College
Avenue at 12th Street.
