Pelvis, Spine and Hip

Posted September 2, 2003

HOLLAND -- The Distinguished Lecture Series in Sports Medicine at Hope College will focus on core stability in athletes on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.

The presentation will be made at Mary Free Bed Hospital, 235 Wealthy, S.E., in Grand Rapids. Jolene Bennett of Rehabilitation Resources of Grand Rapids will present "Butt & Gut: Developing Core Stability in Athletes."

The public is invited. Admission is free.

Bennett's interactive presentation will focus on helping sports medicine professionals to assess the flexibility and strength of the deep intrinsic muscles of the pelvis, spine and hip. She will also relate research to exercise programs designed to prevent and rehabilitate injuries.

Bennett is an athletic trainer and physical therapist specializing in orthopaedic and sports rehabilitation at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. She was named “Clinician of the Year” by the Western District of the Michigan Physical Therapy Association, and has published her work in a variety of professional journals and presented her work at many conferences.

The Distinguished Lecture Series in Sports Medicine is designed for health care professionals with an interest in physically active patients, and is intended for students, educators and clinicians alike. It is co-sponsored by Holland Community Hospital, GRSportsCenter and the college.
