Theatre Welcomes Guest Designer Thom Heyer

Posted April 6, 1998

HOLLAND -- Thom Heyer has returned to Hope College
as the guest costume designer for the theatre's forthcoming
  production of "The Three Sisters."
Born in Grand Rapids, Heyer is a graduate of the
Art School at UNC-Charlotte.  From there, he did his
graduate work in costuming at Southern Methodist University.
Currently, Heyer works as a freelance designer in
New York.  Most recently, he designed for the Off-Broadway
production of "Always...Patsy Cline."  He also worked for
Comedy Central's television show "Viva Variety" as an
  assistant costume designer.
"The Three Sisters" is Heyer's third collaboration
with director John Tammi of the Hope faculty.  They worked
together previously on two productions during Heyer's six
seasons with Hope Summer Repertory Theatre.  The first was
"Peter Pan" in 1993, and in 1996 they combined to present
  "Rags."
Heyer notes that he is enjoying the theatre's new
costume shop, part of the renovation completed in 1997.  "It
is wonderful," he said.  "They needed it, and already they
have filled it up."  Also, he is finding working during the
school year, instead of the summer, a "nice change of pace."
Heyer's renderings will be displayed in the
theatre lobby of the DeWitt Center beginning with the
  opening week of the production.
"The Three Sisters" opens on Thursday, April 16,
and continues Friday-Saturday, April 17-18, and Friday and
Saturday, April 24-25.  Curtain time is 8 p.m.; the play
will run in the main theatre of the DeWitt Center, located
on Columbia Avenue at 12th Street.
Tickets are $7 for regular adult admission, $5 for
Hope faculty and staff, and $4 for Hope students and senior
citizens, and are available in the theatre lobby ticket
office in the DeWitt Center.  The ticket office is open from
10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from noon
until 5 p.m. on Saturday.  More information may be obtained
  by calling 395-7890.
