Hope College Will Honor
Radio Station's 50 Years of Service

Posted September 24, 1998

HOLLAND -- The traditional Hope-Holland Community Day
festivities on Saturday, Sept. 26 will provide the setting for
the recognition of Holland radio station WHTC for its 50 years of
service to the community.
Hope College President John Jacobson will present a Board of
Trustees Distinguished Service Award to Michael Walton, Sr.,
owner of the station, during halftime of the Hope-Illinois
Wesleyan football game at Holland Municipal Stadium.  The game
begins at 1:30 p.m.
The award, which recognizes distinctive accomplishments, is
being presented for the first time to a business in appreciation
for dedicated service.
WHTC marked its golden anniversary on July 31st, exactly 50
years from the day in 1948 when it made its premiere broadcast as
"Holland's Hometown Station."
"Throughout its history, WHTC has remained committed to
local programming, highlighted by presenting news, weather,
sports and special events in the Holland-Zeeland communities,"
said President Jacobson.  "The station provides a very necessary
service to our communities and does it well."
WHTC has also broadcast Hope College football and basketball
games from its first years on the air.  The station has also
broadcast many special events from the Hope campus and provides
an opportunity on a regular basis for the college to communicate
to the community about events and other news.
