Lampen Mathematics Contest
Winners Are Announced

          HOLLAND -- Teams and individual students took home
  honors following the 26th annual Albert E. Lampen
  Mathematics Contest and Conference, held at Hope College on
  Saturday, Nov. 14.
          The contest consists of a 30-question, multiple
  choice test administered in a 90-minute time span.
  Approximately 120 students from 16 high schools
  participated.
          Winning teams in class A, B, C and D, and the
  overall top team, were determined by adding the scores of
  each school's top four individual scorers.  In addition,
  first- through seventh-place prizes were awarded to the top
  individual students.
          Glenbrook High School of Northbrook, Ill., was
  recognized for the overall highest team total.  Okemos High
  School was the top team in Class A, Holland Christian High
  School was the top team in Class B, Allendale High School
  was the top team in Class C and Western Michigan Christian
  High School of Muskegon was the top team in Class D.
          David Dueber of Glenbrook High School won first
  place.  Brian Schroeder of Okemos High School won second
  place.
          In a four-way tie for third place were:  Joel
  Louwsma of Holland Christian High School, Wayland Ni of
  Okemos High School, Matt Rozen of Glenbrook and Gun Song of
  Glenbrook High School.
          In a two-way tie for seventh place were Ursula
  Chen and Eric Geib, both of Glenbrook High School.
          Each winning team received a trophy.  Individual
  prize-winners received cash prizes as well as certificates
  that may be used for tuition at Hope if they decide to
  enroll at the college after graduating from high school.
          While the students participated in the contest,
  their teachers attended a conference during which members of
  the Hope faculty and high school teachers gave talks on
  incorporating technology into classroom teaching.
