Phelps Scholars: Activities [1]

The international experiences I've had growing up are carried on in the Phelps Scholars Program, which I really enjoy.
— Emma, from the U.S., Egypt, Oman, Dubai, and Sweden

Bi-monthly Meetings

The entire Phelps Scholars group meets twice each month to spend time discussing a variety of issues, including topics like "Cross-Cultural Communication" and "The Role of Race in American Sports.” The group also attends other on-campus events and presents an event for the Hope campus once each semester.

Day Trips

Each month, Phelps Scholars travel on day trips to a variety of destinations, including:

  • Chicago, IL: World Music Festival [2] and Lunar New Year celebration in Chinatown [3]
  • Dearborn, MI: Islamic Center of America [4], Arab-American National Museum [5], and a traditional Lebanese restaurant
  • Indianapolis, IN: Follow the North Star underground railroad reenactment at Connor Prairie [6] interactive history park
  • Grand Rapids, MI: Hispanic Festival [7] and traditional Native American pow wow
