An international bazaar, showcase and cuisine will provide a sampling of cultural heritage from around the world during Hope College's "Images: A Reflection of Cultures" on Saturday, Nov. 10.
"Images" will begin with a dinner featuring international cuisine from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Phelps Hall dining room. For those not on the college's meal plan, admission to the dinner will be $5 per person, payable at the door.
The international bazaar will happen simultaneously in the dining room. During the bazaar, Hope's international students will display and discuss many items that they have brought from their home countries.
The international showcase, to which admission is free, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre. The showcase will feature an array of songs, poems, dances and other clips of culture in multiple languages and fashions. More than 50 students and members of the community will participate. Countries and regions represented will include Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Kenya, Korea, the Middle East, Nigeria, Russia, South America, the United States and Vietnam.
"Images: A Reflection of Cultures" is sponsored by the Office of International Education at Hope and kicks off the college's International Education Week, which will feature a variety of events planned around the theme "One World, Many Nations." The Knickerbocker Theatre is located in downtown Holland at 86 E. Eighth St. Phelps Hall is located on the corner of Columbia Avenue and 10th Street.
