I love anything outdoors. Let the list begin: Swimming, biking, hiking, camping, ultimate frisbee, beach volleyball, pier jumping, walking, running, skipping through the woods, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, water skiing, occasional wake boarding, reading outdoors, outdoor photography, writing outdoors, watching the sunset, kayaking, canoeing and I’m sure there are many more. I also love indoor volleyball, reading, drinking good coffee and have excellent conversations with stellar people.
Fun or Interesting Fact
The truth is I can actually balance things on my face such as umbrellas, bats, chairs and the occasional table. This is most entertaining however, with Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" playing in the background.
Favorite College Memory
There are really so many to choose from that I can’t say that I have a favorite, but I remember one time after I had made the varsity volleyball team as a freshman, I was chosen for a very special task. Apparently years back, there was a tradition that at the beginning of every home match, one player from the team would be chosen to sport a rather embarrassing, but cool, tiger striped cape on the first lap around the gym, all to the music of “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. I wore the cape with pride as the crowd cheered at our enthusiastic and inspiring entry. Though it was a silly tradition and I had no idea what it even meant, I knew that even as a freshman I was accepted by the team, and I had found a new family at Hope.
Why I Love HopeI love Hope because not only is it a place rich with tradition and community, but also, it is a place where I was free to explore my faith freely and with wonderful, Christ-like mentors walking alongside of me. I came to own my faith in college and couldn’t have done it in a better way.
Favorite Artist or Album
Shane and Shane. These fellows are acoustic geniuses with a depth and heart to their music rarely found amidst other artist in their genre.
Favorite TV Show or Movie
Hmmm TV. To be honest, I’m always outside. Who has time for television? Movies, on the other hand, are wonderful on a winter’s eve and if that is the case, then I will most likely be watching Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, either the Colin Firth five-hour version, or the latest interpretation.
Best Thing About Holland, Michigan
The Big Lake. I have lived all over the world in some pretty amazing places, but I always seem to find myself dreaming of Lake Michigan, with its beautiful blue fresh water, abundant beaches and the calm that I experience just walking up to its shores.
