Sligh Cottage

Sligh Cottage

Purchased in the summer of 1979, Sligh Cottage is located at 174 East 11th Street and can house up to 12 students.

Originally this cottage served as the office building for the Sligh Furniture Company. When the company moved to its location on M40, the college bought both the house and DePree Art Center which used to serve as the factory. First the house served as the Business and Economics Office and in 1990, HASP, Counseling Center and Career Services moved in after that office moved to Van Zoeren. Then the house served the college as the Financial Aid office until the summer of 2003, when the office was moved to 8th Street and the house was converted to student housing.

This cottage is named in honor of Charles E. Sligh, Jr. who owned the Sligh Furniture Company.
