Medical Waste

Medical Wastes include any items that are contaminated with blood or body fluids containing blood such as gauze, Band-Aids, medical supplies that cannot be decontaminated, sharps, or cleaning materials used to clean up blood or body fluids.

Medical wastes should be packaged according to the methods described in the Bloodborne Pathogen Standard and brought to the Dow Center Health Clinic. Medical wastes that are generated in the A. Paul Schaap Science Center can be autoclaved or packaged and picked up by the medical waste hauler at the Science Center.

Medical waste that is ready to be picked up by a licensed waste hauler can be scheduled by contacting the Occupational Health and Fire Safety Office. Questions on medical waste can be directed to the Occupational Health and Fire Safety Office.
