Llena Chavis came to Hope, first as a student in 1996 and again in 2013 as faculty. Dr. Chavis is now an associate professor of social work. As clinical faculty, Chavis primarily teaches Social Work Interviewing, Social Interventions II, Social Work and Family, and the field practicum. Currently Dr. Chavis serves as the program’s field director.
AREAS OF INTEREST
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Leading DEI efforts at local schools and community agencies and exploring utilizing intergroup dialogue as the primary method of engagement. Consultation available
- Mothering: Exploring the protective factors for mothers utilizing both quantitative and qualitative approaches.
- Mentoring: Implementing group mentoring models of intervention and the effect of mentoring on self-esteem for middle school girls.
- Sex trafficking: Training medical personnel on improving provider competency for best practice intervention. CMEs available
- Clinical practice: EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness
