Melyn Vanden BergAssistant Professor of Accounting
Melyn Vanden Berg ’09 joined the Department of Economics and Business in 2013 and teaches several courses, including:
- Financial Accounting
- Intermediate Accounting
- Accounting Information Systems
- Principles of Auditing
In addition to teaching and advising, Melyn also serves as the faculty co-advisor for the ACG (Association for Corporate Growth) Mergers and Acquisitions Case Competition. In 2015, eight Hope College business majors, representing three individual teams, competed against five other universities at the ACG Cup Competition.
Melyn also assists with the accounting recruiting process by developing relationships with local employers, hosting on-campus recruiting events, attending off-campus firm visits and mentoring students who are looking for internships and full-time positions.
During 2015, Melyn served as the Baker Scholar faculty co-advisor participating in the Fall Chicago Trip, weekly meetings and the annual selection process. She also served on the Committee of Admissions and Financial Aid.
Areas of Expertise
Prior to her role at Hope College, Melyn worked at Ernst & Young LLP in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in the Assurance Practice. She had the opportunity to work with several large public companies in the West Michigan area and has a continued interest in auditing, teaching methods for accounting courses and personal finance.

Outside the College
Melyn and her husband, Jay, are members of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Holland, where she serves on the Long Range Planning Committee. She enjoys camping, hiking, boating, cooking and a good game of fetch with their Boston terrier, Bo.
