For the second consecutive year the Hope College
men's tennis team has been honored for academic achievement by
the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The 1999 squad is one of just 11 NCAA Division III teams
named to the ITA All-Academic honor roll.  The award is given to
teams who maintain a cumulative team grade point average of 3.2
or above (on a 4.00 scale).
Hope also had four members of the team named Scholar-
Athletes for achieving at least a 3.5 or higher grade point
average.  Honorees are Erik Berg of Lansing (Lansing Catholic
Central HS), Robert Brandt of Holland (Grand Rapids Christian
HS), Paul Lillie of Roseville, Minn. (Roseville Area HS), and
Andrew Ohm of Grand Blanc (Flint Powers Catholic HS).  Brandt is
a 1999 Hope graduate while Berg, Lillie and Ohm will all be
seniors this fall.
The Flying Dutchmen, coached by Steve Gorno, finished second
in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA)
standings last spring.  The team tied a school record for dual
match victories in a season by posting a 15-3 record.
Other letterwinners on the team included Chad Bollinger of
Petoskey (Petoskey HS), Kai Bouchard of Hinsdale, Ill. (Hillsdale
Township Central HS), Kevin Gingras of Muskegon (Mona Shores HS), and Raj Malviya of Holland (Holland HS).
