When the Flying Dutch women's swimming/diving team set Hope athletics history last weekend, it brought into focus the amazing record of coach John Patnott.

The Flying Dutch posted their 49th consecutive MIAA dual meet victory by defeating rival Calvin.

It is the longest winning streak by any Hope athletic team in school history. It is also the third longest dual meet winning streak to MIAA history, surpassed only by the success of the Kalamazoo College men's tennis program.

John Patnott started the Hope swimming/diving program in 1978. Three times in his career he has been voted the NCAA Division III national coach-of-the-year.

Over the past 17 seasons, the Flying Dutch have posted a 97-1 MIAA dual meet record. In all dual meets (MIAA and non-league) the Dutch under coach Patnott are 157-17, a 90% winning clip.
