The Flying Dutchmen have been picked to finish third in the upcoming MIAA football race. The annual pre-season MIAA Fall Sports Press Day was held Thursday at Tri-State University.

The defending MIAA football champion Alma Scots have been picked as the team to beat in 2005 in the pre-season poll of coaches and the media. The Scots received seven of a possible 20 first place votes. Five of the league's eight teams received a first place vote. The Flying Dutchmen received five first place votes, two from coaches and three from the media.

The predicted order of finish in the poll with first place votes in parentheses: 1. Alma (7) 40, 2. Albion (4) 47, 3. Hope (5) 51, 4. Adrian (3) 56, 5. Olivet (1) 81, 6. Tri-State 122, 7. Wisconsin Lutheran 126, 8. Kalamazoo 133.

The Flying Dutchmen report for pre-season practices on August 17th. The season open is September 10th at John Carroll, Ohio. The home opener is September 17th against DePauw, Ind.
