All-conference honors in spring sports have been announced by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association coaches.
Softball
The MIAA champion Flying Dutch received most of the league's top honors. Coach Karla Wolters and assistants Deb and Matt Sleeman have been honored as the coaching staff of the year. Sophomore centerfielder Jessica Regnerus of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) was voted the MIAA's most valuable offensive player while senior pitcher Becky Whitman of Ludington (Ludington HS) was named the most valuable defensive player.
Four players received All-MIAA first team honors. Regnerus was honored for the second consecutive year. First-time honorees include senior shortstop Emily Adams of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS), sophomore catcher Kylee Brouwer of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS), and Whitman.
Three players received All-MIAA second team reocgnition -- senior pitcher Kelsey Guisbert of Farmington (Farmington HS), senior second baseman Libby Hammon of Allegan (Allegan HS), and sophomore outfielder Laura Tanouye of Darian, Ill. (Hinsdale South HS).
Baseball
The MIAA co-champion Flying Dutchmen placed five players on the All-MIAA teams.
Pitcher Dustin Wuis of Kalamazoo (Comstock HS) is the only freshman on the All-MIAA first team. He is joined by teammate Matt Sattler, a sophomore outfielder from Brighton (Hartland HS).
All-MIAA second team honors were presented to sophomore shortstop Joey Goeb of Grand Rapids (East Grand Rapids HS), senior third baseman Geordie Mackenzie of Grosse Pointe Farms (South HS), and sophomore outfielder Scott Sommavilla of Holland (West Ottawa HS).
Track & Field
Hope placed nine athletes on the All-MIAA track and field teams. The Flying Dutch finished second in the MIAA women's standings while the Flying Dutchmen were third.
Honored for a second time are sophomore Lindsay Lange of Manistee (Manistee HS), junior Scott Langille of Glen Ellyn, Ill. (Glenbard West HS), junior Leslie Tableman of Lansing (Lansing Eastern HS),
First-time honorees are sophomore Viktorija Graudins of Kalamazoo (Loy Norrix HS), freshman Nora Kuiper of Parchment (Parchment HS), junior Mishelle Scott of Traverse City (Traverse City West HS), senior Matt Svoboda of Grand Haven (Grand Haven HS), and junior Ryan TerLouw of Pella, Iowa (Pella HS), senior Jeff Weber of Grandville (Grandville HS).
Leslie Tableman, Ryan TerLouw and Jeff Weber were also All-MIAA honorees in cross country last fall.
Hope had four MIAA champions at the 115th conference Field Day -- Scott Langille, pole vault (14-9); Ryan TerLouw, 1,500-meter run (3:54.29), Nora Kuiper, 100-meter dash (:12.45), and Lindsay Lange, 200-meter dash (:25.41).
Tennis
Six players received All-MIAA honors in tennis. The Flying Dutchmen tied for second place in the men's seasonal standings while the Flying Dutch were fourth in the women's race.
Senior Anneliese Fox of Alma (Alma HS) achieved All-MIAA honors a fourth consecutive year and was voted the league's most valuable player a third year in-a-row. She was the MIAA's first flight singles champion for four years.
She was joined on the All-MIAA first team by freshman Samantha Stille of Holland (West Ottawa HS). Junior Ashley Leary of Naperville, Ill. (Naperville Central HS) received All-MIAA second team recognition.
Senior Andy Ruemenapp of Petoskey (Petoskey HS) achieved All-MIAA first team honors and was the co-recipient of the league's Stowe Sportsmanship award. This marks the ninth time over the past 11 years that a Hope player has been presented the league's sportsmanship award.
Senior Robert Dody of Whitehall (Whitehall HS) was presented the Lawrence Green Scholarship. The scholarship was created in 1990 to honor the memory of Lawrence "Doc" Green, coach and athletic trainer at Hope.
Players presented All-MIAA second team honors were junior Steve Malvitz of Ada (East Grand Rapids HS) and senior Andy Phillips of White Pigeon (Sturgis HS). Phillips was also an All-MIAA honoree in basketball.
