This is the tenth time in school history that Hope has been the men's basketball attendance leader. The 2007-08 MIAA champion Flying Dutchmen averaged 3,016 fans per game over 17 dates, nearly doubling runner-up Wooster, Ohio who averaged 1,621. MIAA rival Calvin slipped from third to fifth in the rankings, averaging 1,373 fans over 13 home dates.
Hope's attendance average, the best in school history, was bolstered by three home NCAA tournament games that averaged over 3,600 fans. The Flying Dutchmen posted a 17-0 home floor record that included a pair of victories over rival Calvin before sellout crowds. In three seasons at DeVos Fieldhouse, Hope has posted a 48-2 record.
The Flying Dutchmen, coached by Glenn Van Wieren, were champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and finished third in the nation among NCAA Division III teams. Hope was 28-4 overall and 13-1 in conference games.
Other years when Hope led the nation in men's attendance were 1984, 1991, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Hope and Calvin helped the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) to top all Division III conferences in home attendance for the 17th consecutive year with an average of 1,035 fans per game.
