Hope College will present its annual Concerto/Aria concert on Friday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The concert features students, who were selected through a competition held last November, performing with the Hope College orchestra. This year six students were selected to perform.

The program will open with the Overture to "Don Giovanni," by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Following will be baritone Ross Green, a senior from Plainwell, performing "Il Catalogo" from "Don Giovanni."  Flautist Michelle Pascoe, a senior from Clarkston, will perform Cécile Chaminade's "Concertino for Flute and Orchestra."  Following is soprano Lauren Conley, a junior from WhiteLake, singing George Gershwin's "Summertime." Countertenor Jonathan Weppler, a junior from Libertyville, Ill., will be singing George Frideric Handel's aria, "Where'er you walk."  Flautist Kaite Zigterman, a senior from Aurora, Ill., will perform Charles Griffes' "Poem for flute and orchestra."  Violinist Victoria Zokoe, a senior from Holland, will perform the first movement of Samuel Barber's "Violin Concerto."

The concert will close with the Gioachino Rossini's "Overture" from "La Gazza Ladra" ("The Thieving Magpie").

The program is conducted by Richard Piippo who received baccalaureate and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His studies at UW-M were with George Sopkin of the Fine Arts Quartet. Further studies were enhanced by work with Pierre Fournierin Switzerland and Laszlo Varga and Margaret Rowell at the San Francisco Conservatory. His conducting studies have been with George Cleve, Donald Craig and Marvin Rabin.
