A Hope College faculty family's experience during a semester in France will be the focus of an illustrated presentation on Wednesday, March 16, at 4 p.m. in the Fried/Hemenway Auditorium of the Martha Miller Center for Global Communication.
A Hope College faculty family's experience during a semester in France will be the focus of an illustrated presentation on Wednesday, March 16, at 4 p.m. in the Fried/Hemenway Auditorium of the Martha Miller Center for Global Communication.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Dr. Matthew DeJongh, associate professor of computer science, and his daughter Allie will present pictures and stories describing their experiences as tourists and residents in France in the spring of 2009. The presentation, "Les DeJonghs en France: un séjour de six mois à Bordeaux" ("The DeJonghs in France: a six-month séjour in Bordeaux"), has been organized by the French Cultural Studies Colloquium.
Dr. DeJongh learned French while growing up in Montreal. During his spring 2009 abroad, he was funded by the U.S. Fulbright Research Scholars program to collaborate with scientists at the University of Bordeaux. He, his wife, and their four school-age children embarked together on the adventure, living, working, going to school and traveling in western France and northern Spain.
The presentation will be given in French, with visual cues and occasional English explanations for audience members who do not speak French.
The Martha Miller Center for Global Communication is located at 257 Columbia Ave., on Columbia Avenue at 10th Street.
