IDT will present its annual dance concert at Hope College on Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2, at 8 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.

IDT (InSync Dance Theatre), co-directed by Rosanne Barton-DeVries and Amanda Smith-Heynen, is also a resident company of Hope College. Founded in 1997, it is a tap and jazz repertory company that features selected students, Hope graduates and other professionals. IDT presents a seasonal performance at the Knickerbocker Theatre and many small performances in the surrounding communities.

This year, IDT has four new guest artists as choreographers as well as a guest artist dancer.

The guest choreographers are Don Smith, Emilie Meyering, Richard Ashworth, and Dolores Sanchez  who have all choreographed new works of tap on InSync dancers.

° Smith's piece is titled "Shout and Feel It," with music by Count Basie. It is a "buck and wing"-style tap piece, harkening to the roots of tap.

° Meyering's piece, "It's Gonna Be," has gone a more contemporary direction with music by Norah Jones.

° Ashworth's piece, "Lullaby," was choreographed to music by Jack Johnson.

° Dolores Sanchez choreographed a hip hop piece called "Dance or Die," with music by Janelle Monaé.

IDT is bringing back two works from last year.

"From 4-D" "includes a new section and was choreographed during the last few weeks of my mother-in-law's life," explained director Amanda Smith-Heyden. "The title comes from the wing of the hospital I spent most of my time in while coming up with choreography. The music is by Bach."

The other returning piece is from last year's guest artist, Dorrell Martin, and is titled "Alive."

The guest dancer this year is David Braciac, who formerly danced with Grand Rapids Ballet and is currently teaching in Grand Rapids. He will be performing a pas de deux, "Twice," featuring music by Little Dragon, with IDT member Lindsay Filcik.

A duet will be danced by two of IDT's new members, Kelsey Carpenter and Rachel Cho. The piece contains music by The Klazz Brothers featuring arrangements of work by Beethoven and infused with percussion.

The show will end with a premiere which includes all members of the company and has four sections. The piece is choreographed by Smith-Hyden with help from the company, and features music by Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan.
