Dr. Jolene Vos-Camy of the Calvin College French faculty will speak on the rich tradition and influence of 17th-century French women writers on Western literature on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 4 p.m. in room 135 of the Martha Miller Center for Global Communication.

The event is sponsored by the college’s French Studies Colloquium.  Her PowerPoint-illustrated presentation will be delivered in English.

The public is invited.  Admission is free.

Vos-Camy is a professor of French and chair of the department at Calvin, where she has taught since 1997.  She has been a contributing editor to “French 17,” an annual descriptive bibliography, since 2000. She has published mainly on authors of the French 17th century, such as Paul Scarron and his Roman comique, and the novels of Catherine Bernard. Her most recent research has focused on a lesser well-known 17th-century author, Antoinette de Salvan de Saliès.

In her spare time, she keeps busy with her family, enjoying kids’ basketball games and music lessons among other things. She tries to get to France every year or two to visit family and friends. And she’s tentatively planning on climbing Mont Blanc next June.

The Martha Miller Center for Global Communication is located at 257 Columbia Ave., at the corner of Columbia Avenue and 10th Street.
