JungWoo Kim, baritone, of the Hope College music faculty will present a recital on Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The first piece, “Ihr Völker hört from the Harmonischen Gottesdienst,” by Georg Philipp Telemann, will be accompanied by flautist Gabe Southard. Next, Kim will perform “An die ferne Geliebte,” by Ludwig Van Beethoven, and “Tanzlied des Pierrots” from “Die Tote Stadt,” by Erich Wolfgang Korngold.  Following an intermission will be “Là ci darem la mano from Don Giovanni,” by Wolfgang A. Mozart, accompanied by soprano Jessica Louise Coe; “Will You Draw Near,” by Kyu-Hwan Kim; “A Mountain Village,” by Doo-Nam Cho; “The Mountain,” by Dong-Su Shin; and “Blue Mountain Ballads (Heavenly Grass, Lonesome Man, Cabin, and Sugar in the Cane),” by Paul Bowles.

Lyric baritone JungWoo Kim, who is an assistant professor of voice at Hope, has actively performed as an opera singer, concert soloist, and recitalist throughout United States and his native South Korea. He has appeared with Central City Opera, Lyric Opera Cleveland, Loveland Opera Theatre, Lincoln Center (Alice Tully Hall), DeKalb International Chorus Festival, The National Theater of Korea, Seoul Art Center and more.  He is the winner of numerous honors and awards, including first prize in the West-Central NATS competition, and finalist in the Harold Haugh Opera Vocal Competition and Rose Palmai-Tenser Vocal Competition.

Prior to joining the Hope faculty, he was a graduate part-time instructor at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he is currently a doctoral candidate in vocal performance and pedagogy. He earned a bachelor’s degree in voice performance at Chung-Ang University in Korea and a master’s degree and performance diploma in voice performance at Indiana University in Bloomington.
