The Hope College Concert Series will feature Ordinary Neighbors, with Dooga Fruit and Jacob Bullard, in this year’s annual Hope Artists Show on Friday, April 26, at 8 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The doors will open at 7:30 p.m.

Ordinary Neighbors is made up of Hope’s own Joshua Banner and Susanna Childress, who are husband and wife.  Banner is minister of arts and music at the college, and Childress is an award-winning poet and member of the Hope English faculty, teaching creative writing. They will be performing with a full band made up of Hope students.

Banner formed Ordinary Neighbors after releasing two solo records independently, seeking “less rush, less isolation, less sonic perfection, less predictability and more noise, more happy accidents, more people and better lyrics.”  His album “The Necessary Dark,” released last fall, was created with this thinking.  Ordinary Neighbors also was a finalist in Calvin’s 2011 Festival of Faith and Music Bandspotting competition.

Opening the evening will be Jacob Bullard and the group Dooga Fruit. Dooga Fruit is comprised of Hope students and alumni, including four graduating seniors. The band offers a blend of electronic and acoustic elements, as well as a high-energy sound. Jacob Bullard is a 2011 Hope graduate who majored in writing and now lives in Grand Rapids, devoting his life to creating sonically diverse music.
